I believe they put the fastest at the end so they can open the streets faster. If they put the slowest people starting last, it'd delay things by quite a bit.

I ran one loop of the course today - it's f'n hot out there.
Did anyone get this obnoxious email about AWA fast-pass check-in?
"We've set up a fast pass check in line in the Athlete Check-in area located at the Travis County Expo center. If there is a line, simply look for the AWA flags, jump to the front of the line or to the appropriate table and watch all the other athletes - who are not AWA - wish they were AWA! We hope the fast pass line will help speed you through the check in process and give you more time to prepare for the big event on Sunday. "
There was no AWA flag, no AWA line.... there is no way I am going to just walk up to the front of the line and cut in front of the person who had to wait to get there. How absurd!
