We have two possible dates of September 20 and 27. Given the micro climate in the area we should be fine on either. We also have to consider the schedule and final races in our series and that we also produce the Centurion events for Graham. We hope to finalize the 2015 date within a week and have registration open shortly after that.

potential duathlon world champion

Guess who the 1994 World Duathlon champion was? A guy named Norman Stadler! I Would not write Sanders off quite that quickly Eric.

The run record seems to be all over the place.

Agreed. There are a whole bunch of times now in the 2:35 - 2:39 range that all make a claim at being the "fastest".

For a while Colin Dignum's 2:37 from Ironman Canada in 1997 was thought to be the fastest on a legit course. But even with that some argued that Dignum's effort should not count because he was not, "in the money".

There is a bit of a back-story with the Dignum split in that it was somewhat of a legitimate set-up to have a go at it. Colin was a 2:20'ish marathon runner and a duathlete of some reknown. He was on the Canadian Duathlon team at the time. However, his go at this and at Ironman with a swim and that length of a bike was a one-off. And I think that's why some scoffed at it.

I am one of those guys that scoffed at it then and do now. For Colin's engine, his swim and bike were front of mid pack age group at best. So that split was no where close to Crowie's 2:38 at Melbourne after redlining the swim and bike with Lanos, Cam Brown, and FVL ending up sub 8. Or Mark Allen's 2:40 in 1989 that included T2.

In Canada, there has never been a race more impressive than Hellriegel's 8.09 on the old Penticton course.

Indeed, one for the ages, and insiders who follow the sport know that this was a truly extraordinary performance by Hellriegel that should be recognized as one of the top 5 - 10 performances of all time.

Not just that...5 weeks later he goes 8:06 in Kona with a 2:46 marathon and LOSES to LVL. I think that Penticton 8:09 and Kona 8:06 was the best double of all time.

Well said Barrie. I think the Kona trip for Lionel will really light a fire under his butt for Florida!! And Kona will provide a good training environment for him also (ie Hot and Humid). We leave Oct 2nd. It would be good to meet up while there.

There's some truth in this for everyone. A lot of people, myself included, signed up for IM Muskoka since we finally have a race in our backyard so to speak. I had an absolute blast at Barrelman and would not hesitate in doing it again. Hopefully there's enough time in between events to recover.

Yes - he is the full package. Great kid. I've just learned that I may be shooting some more video with him in Hawaii in a few weeks.
