There is a range of quality with sunscreens. However, by far the most important thing is application. To get maximum protection, shower with soap and water, towel dry, and the immediately put on a generous amount of sun screen on all exposed skin. This ensures deep penetration and absorption into the skin and as I mentioned assures maximum protection for that given SPF.
If you don't do this, oils in your skin, disrupt the absorption process and you may be only getting a fraction of the sunscreens advertised SPF!
