Clever. Hopefully it's not a friction drag on the drivetrain.

I've never had a problem with storing CO2. Now if only they could fit a tube and some levers in there...

Take a short break from ST and read my blog:

Interesting, I like the way that the wedges act as tire levers.

One of the issues I see is an annoying rattle in your BB.

Nice. I wish shipping was not almost as much as the product.

It won't fit in my square taper BB, so I'll just put my CO2 in the pocket of my wool jersey.

I backed it yesterday, i like the idea of having one less thing hanging off my bike. plus the tire levers are cool.

As did I. I try to keep my bike clean and I like to support people with unusual ideas.

...he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide something. His ass. Five long years, he wore this CO2 cartridge up his ass. Then he died of dysentery, he gave me the CO2 cartridge. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the CO2 cartridge to you

I have a similar philosophy, but I limit my support to people with good ideas. :-)

Me? I'll support the guy selling Merino hats as opposed to the guy flogging off Armadillo hats, but that's just me.

Thanks GreenPlease for bringing up CrankPump!
I'm the guy who put CrankPump on Kickstarter (my hand is in the photo).

A big "thank you" to you and Seiken for backing CrankPump on Kickstarter.

There's some interesting (and hilarious) comments here I can help address:
Quote:
Hopefully it's not a friction drag on the drivetrain.
CrankPump is fixed securely in the axle, so there is no movement and no friction. It's also at the centre-line of the axle, so it makes an insignificant difference to your cranks' inertia.
Having your CO2 pump completely hidden in the axle does make a difference to aerodynamic drag though - if you look at today's aero seat-posts, you can see that having a smaller saddle bag is a benefit.

Quote:
I've never had a problem with storing CO2. Now if only they could fit a tube and some levers in there...
CrankPump includes a tyre-removal device called a TyreZip, which unzips the tyre from the rim, like a car mechanic does.

The TyreZips also clip together to stop the CO2 cartridge piercing when it is being stored

I get quite a few people saying "why bother?", but then why bother with a slightly more aero bike or buying Dura Ace instead of 105? Having a hidden CO2 pump you never need to bother remembering is a great thing for some people, and not such a big deal for others.
Given the straight-up choice between a fit-and-forget CrankPump or another CO2 pump that you had to carry, the choice seems pretty easy. Getting to market, to give you that choice takes the backing of some people who are willing to support innovation. That interest in innovation is one of the things I've always admired about Slowtwitch.

Quote:
One of the issues I see is an annoying rattle in your BB.
CrankPump includes a small cylinder of closed-cell foam, that you pop into your axle when you first put in CrankPump. That foam pushes against the CO2 cylinder, preventing it rattling.

I wish that too. Unfortunately that's what "international tracked and signed" costs from the UK. Even with international postage, CrankPump isn't the most expensive C02 pump around... just the most interesting

Thanks for all your comments, and please feel free to ask and suggest things.
