RIP Bruce Reid Cyclist/Triathlete
I just got a call from a friend of mine, that Bruce Reid was killed in a altercation in Las Vegas this week. Bruce was on our triathlon/cycling team that did Redlands cycling classic back in the 90s with Monty, Pigg, Zack, Riccitello, Tom Resh and my self. He was a good guy, and we had lots of great training/racing memories with Bruce. RIP Bruce. Here is the article.

Sorry to hear about this Kenny. That team that you guys put together, I had a bet with some roadie friends that you'd beat the Canadian National Road Cycling Team at Redlands....and you guys did.

Was really sad to hear this, i did many a race with Bruce during my cycling career. He dabbled in some tris, that is how we got him on our all tri road team for redlands. He was a power house, real big guy with a huge engine. And all i really remember about him off the course was that he was super friendly, and just a fun dude to be around.

RIP Bruce

All you guys were awesome. I don't think you guys realize how much you guys validated for all of us triathletes that we were "real athletes" by your high placement at Redlands....next time any roadie gave us attitude about bike handling we could point to the engines, tactics and bike handling that you guys showcased. Sorry your friend has gone, but thanks for the memories. When we leave, all we leave behind is what we left in the minds of others. It seems Bruce (with you guys) had an effect on people he never even met.

Kenny, by the way, you passed me early in the bike at the 1986 Green Mountain Steelman (half IM) in Brattleboro Vermont. That was my first half IM....well the passing on the bike was on this wall like hill and we were wondering who the kid was rocketing the thing like a 4000m pursuit! That was the last time I saw you. Fun times.

Looks like you beat Huddle at that one!

This was from a post from one of the guys last year:

Hey Kenny...what is crazy is that the Kona slots in the 20-24 age group rolled down all the way past me (I was 41st overall). My dad asked me if I wanted to try doing it and I sunk my head between my knees and said "only crazy people would go twice as long"....now I have done 24 Ironmans. Anyway, just wanted to share that all you guys had an impact on us. I really followed that Redlands race you guys engaged in because it was all about you guys acquire "respect" for us multi sport guys (and you did)...big props.

You know what....I looked back at the results: http://www.scribd.com/doc/128041596/1986-green-mountain-steel-man-men-s-results
and unlike the sport today populated largely by a bunch of old guys, all the fast guys were 20-29. Do you have any big plans for turning 50 (I think you do this year?)

One man dead, one going to prison for life or worse. All over some petty argument.... Does anyone hold out hope for our species?

Anyway, it sounds like Reid was not at fault.

Very sad....

Just horrible, sorry to hear this. The name sounded familiar as soon as I read it. I'm sure you & your friend had many interval sessions up & down Middle Fork Rd, shared a lot of memories...it's why television is the "sin box" --because you can't waste a second of your life & need to do REAL living, we never know how long we have. The one thing that is as precious as life itself are those we shared it with. RIP.

My first ride with Bruce was in 1987 at Raincross in Riverside. He was a great Mentor for me and I am saddened by his loss. RIP Bruce

This is sad news. Bruce was one of the strongest cyclists I had ever met. He was just a machine, I mean I remember sitting on that dudes wheel and just gasping trying to stay on it. Its a shame he lost the national TT to Nate Schaffer in 88'. Bruce was a great guy and will be missed by many. I got to know him and his wife in the 90s fairly well. He always had great TT advice, as this was his specialty. He was a fearless guy by nature, being a marine and all, he just didn't have a back down bone is his body, so I could see him trying to stand up for this woman. Bruce had amazing talent. R.I.P. ol friend.....
