ST Virtual New Year's Day Hangover Run - who's in?
I know I'm gonna get lit on NYE - I've already accepted that. But I still wanna start at least part of New Year's day on a positive training note.

And I'd love it if you guys would like to join me in the suffer-fest.

Only rules are;

-Run must be at least 5K (gotta suffer little bit)

-Run must be outside (repenting for NYE requires enduring the elements)

Whaddaya think?

We're having a swim-run biathlon in Kona. 1/2 mile swim, 4 mile run. Weather will be brutal. I'll post pictures. A couple of ST'ers have said they'll be here.

ok, i'm in for a 5K at least. you must understand though, that NYE is our wedding anniversary, and there is a frostbite five miler the morning of dec 31. so, a 5K is all i'll commit to at this point. :)

(usually there is no drinking whatsoever on NYE because i always had the frostbite 5 of the 1st. this year it's the morning before, so we'll see what happens! i've got a 1996 vintage champagne that keeps grabbing my the shirt tail everytime i walk by it!)

You're the prefect entrant for this race!!!

I predict a brutal hangover for you, my friend.

The race is gonna give you a nice endorphin buzz, then off to drink that bottle w/ the Mr., (never ignore the cries for attention from a nice bottle).

That should totally prepare you for some suffering on 1/1. I promise I'll run at least 5K, too - no matter how bad I feel!!!

So, you in?

You live in Kona.

Under normal circumstances, I would now be required to say, "I hate you" - but this being the Holidays, I can't bring myself to follow The Rules.

Have a great race. Enjoy the weather.

It's 39 degrees here. I want to hate you, but I don't.

I'll be doing a 5K race in downtown Baltimore (gotta run fast so you don't get mugged or shot).

Why did I agree to this, I never go into Baltimore proper, ech..

I'll be riding and/or running on the 1st. Won't be a sufferfest for me since been there/done that on the drunk and stupid new year's thing. I'm way over that.

Old Midwestern saying in our family: Whatever you do on New Year's Day sets the tone for the rest of the year. Do ya really want to spent it drunk and stupid?

I'm getting too old for that New Year's partying nonsense, but I'm signed up for an early morning 5 km on New Year's Day. Whether or not I make it is another matter. I might just sleep in and go x-country skiing in the afternoon instead.

I'll be doing the annual Seattle New Years day group ride, so no run for me!

This is a great ride, though. Usually get over 100 riders...

Well, it varies :0)

I always ride out from home, so it's at least 31/2 hours for me. More likely to be 5-ish. Short version, if you drive to the start, is 2 hours or so - but a larg group generally goes longer, if the weather isn't incredibly bad...

No brick for me! Stairs sessions start on the 2nd, so I have to save something!

I have a 20k run on schedule and will be doing it New Year's day regardless of hangover, which should not be substantial as my tastes for intoxicants leans more towards things that don't give you one.

So, not gonna imbibe at all? Then you are REQUIRED to run twice as long as those of us who will be. Just trying to keep it fair. ;)

And eat a bunch of pretzles first and don't drink any water...

Yes, that's why all the swimming. Thrashing around in the pool is very calming :)

Thanks for the good wishes... unfortunately, I've heard alcohol isn't good for healing bones (though I can't remember where I read that) so I don't even get a glass of wine on NY eve :(

OK, I'm in. It'll be a nice 5k run through Prague and I will drag my wife and another IM friend along for good measure. From the stories I've heard about NY Eve in Prague it should be a memorable run. I'm sure we'll all be on death's door. Will try to take pictures of the scenery if I can figure out how to work the camera with a 2006-size hangover.

Yeah, I'm rationalizing. I'll fess up.

Meanwhile, you're not "legal" anyway, right?

So, 4 hours in the pool, and it counts as a "hangover run", deal?

That should also keep you in the lead at Virtual Training Camp!

I am embarassed to say I have never done this race. NYE usually is the final blowout before training starts again, so NY day is spent recovering. We usually go to the Masterson's party at the Olmstead, but they aren't doing it this year, so we have decided to take it easy.
