fitting in a half ironman between other races
Quote | Reply
I've done Sprints and Olympic distance for 5 years.
Race calendar so far:
A race- Sprint Duathlon - June 6
A race- Sprint Nationals - Aug 9
A race-Sprint Worlds - Sept 18

I'd like to splice in a half ironman - my first. I'm not worried about finishing it. It'll be a B race.

My leading contenders are
1. 70.3 in my home town. June 13
2. 70.3 nationals - Sept 26
3. any other random date

Any suggestions?

no reason do make it a B race. If I were in that situation I would do the June one. Doing a sprint fully tapered the week before is the ideal preparation in my eyes. Also a 70.3 doen't require as much top end so perfect off the base build in the spring but June is not too early in case you live somewhere with cold winters either. Also doing a home town race is allways good as it is a bit cheaper and easier to get the prep in the days before right. If it is non WTC race it might be an added bonus...

yep, I live in a northern climate so that makes for exciting training. Definitely not a WTC race.

Support the home town race. Worst case a nice long training day.

personaly I am not a fan of the trainer for base miles but with a nice spring it is easy enough to get a couple thousand (ok maybe 2) outdoor miles in by june which can be prenty with a sollid base of swim/run
