I have double *whatever crappy tires ship on a CAAD 10" tires, with flat spots from a trainer.

I did a duathlon last year on my cyclocross bike with road tires and a Giro Selector helmet. My tri bike was out of commission.

I hope no one thought I was a douche.

Ah that is true. New cars always ship with super awesome handling tires that wear out in 30k miles so you think the drive is smooth.

More people should get an aero helmet before a tri bike. I did a couple races with an aero helmet before I got my tri bike.

I think people who are 100 or more pounds overweight look pretty "interesting" riding with an aero
helmet, I don't know if that's exactly douche canoe status, it's just odd looking.

Of course that's not your dilemma, so I say use your aero helmet, just no blue jean cutoffs or high top basketball shoes.

I say go for it. I raced an Olympic this past weekend and there was a guy riding a road bike with tennis shoes on platform pedals, but he was wearing a fluorescent green Rudy Wing 57. Did it stand out? Absolutely, but more power to him for trying and not giving a damn about what he looked like.
