What are some road bikes that were polished silver/no paint? Didn't Cannondale have one at one point?

The caad 8 9 and 10 have all had versions that are mostly just clearest (not positive about the 9). You can buy 10 like that in sties now-looks pretty sweet IMO.

I know it's a cross bike, but this Santa Cruz Stigmata is sweet.

Might not be what you're looking for, but my Motobecane LeChampion had that type of finish.

The CAAD 9 had a brushed/bare frameset with some decals on it

If you're ever in Europe: http://www.canyon.com/...kes/bike.html?b=2595
(Raw alloy + some decals)

The frame is super sweet too. (Some say it's better than a CAAD9/10)

Nice links... This is almost so hot it hurts. Just need to do something about that saddle/post and maybe the tape.

here's mine. the covers are all hard anodized aluminum. no need to wax it. I just wipe it off with a wet towel. amazing surface.

Oh this is too easy. :) Cervelo Soloist Team aluminum anodized circa 2007 or 2008. Best alu frame ever made.

Polished al wont stay looking polished for long if used outside. Most polished al frames are anodized or clear painted

One thing to note. I think all these are clear coated. Aluminum corrodes pretty badly in some environments. 6061 is probably the most corrosion resistant of the frame alloys... but some are a lot worse.

Some of the early Giant TCRs were available anodized. Supposedly when they were making the bikes for ONCE, Laurent Jalabert didn't want the extra weight (!) of paint, so they made him an anodized one. Hey, it's Jaja, you going to tell him 'No'?

A quick google image search on 'Giant TCR anodized' turns up some matte-gray ones and some others in a funky Mountain Dew green finish.

I know a guy here in minnesota who has polished several aluminum frames. it can be done to any of them. its a good idea to clear coat it to keep it nice.

Polished aluminum can look pretty stunning - case in point some of those Cannondales. Occasionally, one of our customers requests one or at least polished aluminum highlights. There's probably been a drift away from them because they are more expensive from a time perspective. While it is easier to buff the bigger tubes, buffing the joints is slightly more time consuming. As long as there is a solid clear coat on the bike and air doesn't have any access to the aluminum, the frame would look great for a long time.

So I just bought a 1999 Bianchi with the hopes of stripping/sanding it and polishing it up. It's the Bianchi XL EV2 frameset.

Then I read some marketing stuff for this frame and am having my doubts:

"A proprietary hard-coat finish adds durability and subtracts weight—the frame’s black hue is gained from a solution and heat-treatment (with a clear-coat finish), avoiding the extra grams of paint."

Also has a sticker that says no Chemical Finishing. Though I assume this means dunking it into an acid bath ---- as there is structural foam inside.

Anyone have an opinion? Might try sanding the inside of the chain stay to see how it fares.

Thats basically marketing goobledygook. Any finish that puts a coating on is going to add weight, its not like the finish is composed of helium. The frames black might be some sort of black oxide, but the blue and yellow is paint and the clearcoat is paint.

id pay the $40 to have it beadblasted. im sure your time is worth more than that.

after the paint is gone then have fun polishing it.
