Is that Julieanne?????????????????? \\

Ya, I think that who is in the background, Slowman's exwife and Ironman legand. I think she won 4 or 5 Ironmans, got 2nd in Hawaii one year, and won a lot of local CA running races. Funny thing is that she probably got better on the bike than her run, she held several course bike records for a very long time. We will have to ask Dan for sure, but it sure looks like her to me, Oakley was her sponsor, and she did that race in Palm Springs.

Oh ya, for those that do not know who Julieanne is, her last name was White. You will see her all over the old time results..

Dan will obviously know for sure...but I can't recall Julieanne White being quite fast enough to wear a #3 bib at ITU Worlds (even at the 2nd one ever...although, that could be a #3something bib)...I can't really remember what she looked like for sure...

Sure was fast though:

Yes, I have Julieanne to thank for me finally meeting slowman in the flesh. I can still picture that day--May 2000, Mexican restaurant in Carlsbad a couple of days before IM Cali. First impression--dude can TALK! And eat chips and salsa!

In the late 70's no standard for races, all different formats, sometimes the swim was last sometimes bike.

Original New York City triathlon held in Coney Island, loved running on the boardwalk.

Northport L.I. tri started with 2 1/2 mile swim....no racks nothing.

Hairnet helmets...

I can't let this thread die. I've had a blast reading through all the posts and seeing images I only thought still existed in my faded memory...

I had a 1990 Nishiki Altron that I raced up until about 1994. After I graduated from college I got too caught up in career and life in general and the bike sat for many years. Unfortunately I sold it at a bike swap meet in Phoenix in the late 90's. Always wished I would have hung onto it and if anyone knows where it is let me know. I'm trying to post pics, but can't seem to get the photo button to do anything...help.

I worked for a bike shop back then and we were a Nishiki dealer. We had a hell of a time getting one of the first bikes as the wheels were a "no-show" from Tri-Spoke and Derby Cycle kept putting us off in getting the bike shipped. I don't think I ever saw one with those original Tri-Spokes on it and do know for a fact that the bike in the pictures in the Nishiki brochure had wooden wheels on it painted in the neon yellow. In the end our rep finally got one sans wheels and we built up a set of Wolbers to get the bike rolling. Aerospoke came through with a set of 650c tubulars a while later and I swapped the original funky Profile 1 aero bar with a bullhorn and clip-on..

Obviously Kenny Souza rode one of these, but I had heard that he actually had a custom ride built (titanium?) and then they painted it up to look like a Nishiki...anyone know "the rest of the story?"

The start of this thread.

+1. I just about replied to a 3-year-old post about the Coors Light Biathlon Series.

(Because we really need drunk cross-country skiers out there shooting at stuff with rifles).

it's not about being really good at one sport, it's about being just a little better than average in three. oh, and it's about gadgets. buying lots and lots of expensive gadgets.
