The strap for my 310x HRM strap sucks and I really don't want to spend the money on another strap. Anybody done this??

Yep, footpods,HRM straps etc all are compatible between the two watches.

The premium strap that came with the 310 chaffed me raw, so I switched back the the old hard plastic HR strap. Only takes about 30 secs to pair up the other HR strap. Make sure when you're doing this that only the strap you want paired is within range.

Yes. I bought my 310 without the strap and use my old 305 strap. I've had zero issues (2yrs) with getting accurate HR when training.
