Well, no, as a guy, I haven't had the pleasure (or mess) of such an experience. Thank God.
Okay, working with what Gazelle said about lower body work... I've noticed in my open water swims that I tend to get some tighness/overwork on the aductors, especially the right side, and I've traced it to a hitch in my kick when I site. I tend to site on only one side, even though I breathe equally well on both sides (hey, a guy's gotta have SOME quirks). So I'm wondering if this possibly something similar might be going on? Just a wild "who knows" kind of thought.

LOL, you're probably right - every guy's fantasy, the women at the gym are so hot for him that they're having an orgasm just by watching his manly self work out. ;-)
Still, since my naturally sunny nature (cough) takes people at face value, maybe azgirl does have the same "problem" as the women in the article.....?

i think one of the earlier replies was whether or not you got this problem when you did triathlons that did not require wetsuits.
this is a pretty pertinent question so i hope you would consider it.
we're trying to eliminate causes here, so:
1) ever done a non-wetsuit tri, or
2) non-mass start with <100 in your wave, or
3) warmer water conditions
personally i suspect it's more to do with you being too amped up for race, and how your brain's pleasure centre is interpreting all that adrenalin and endorphin.

You must be along for the ride mentally , maybe thinking of a boring /unpleasant event . As in , Voting ,doing Taxes , DMV , driving in traffic , watching the news , you parents in underwear , a man with back hair ( I have 4 more pages I wont post ).

I haven't done a tri without a wetsuit but have worn it in the pool on several occasions it hasn't happened

the amount of people in the start doesn't seem to make a difference. I just usually get kicked and bumped into less.

Over the summer I did several open water swims in practice and never had this problem but it was just for training purposes so I wasn't nervous.
My feeling is that this is just the way my body deals with stress and I just have to figure out how to get passed it.

I totally see what you are saying but all I can think about when I swim during a race is breathing and sighting. I count my stokes, count my breathing, and do math about how far I've gone and how far I have to go. Trust me sex is the furthest thing from my mind.
