Where to train in Florida?
I have a free week in March, desperate to get some SBR miles in. Anyone have a suggestion for a good base to train from in FL? Or anywhere warm within a short nonstop flight of Boston...

Fly into Orlando and drive to Clermont Fl. Great outside pools to swim in, good biking, and nice running options. I am sure there are other several great places in FL but Clermont is up there on the list.

X2 on Clermont. There's actually hills in the area! ;-) Great pool and track at the old triathlon training center:

There also was a guy who rented rooms to triathletes, and often there are pros there as well.

Enjoy.....I'm jealous!

X3 on Clermont. Tough to beat. West Orange trail is close if you want to bike car-free. National Training Center has an awesome pool. If you want to do hill work Clermont is legit.

Ditto.
And not too far away over by Universal is Luckys Lake Swim.

I will go agaisnt the grain because I am not a big fan of Clermont.

I would likely pick new tampa. Stay on Bruce B Downs as it backs up to Flatwoods. 7 mile paved loop with tons of running trails. There is a YMCA down the road with a 50m pool that is long course 3x a week.

Need a long ride? You are probably 20 minutes from the Suncoast Trail. Plus with tampa, you can pop over to the beach pretty easily.

I respect that point of view, but I live in Tampa and Clermont is hands down far superior. Flatwoods is FLAT and the 7 mile loop will get old fast. The Suncoast is FLAT except for some rollers at the upper end. Trails at Flatwood are nice but that's not enough to put Tampa over Clermont. Tampa wins ONLY if you want to go to the beach for some OWS.

I can't stand Tampa's traffic. Clermont also has the 10 mile clay road. Bradshaw/5 mile road. No cars and get out early to beat the heat. Lots of runners/triathletes from all over frequent it. Here's the link.

Sorry, but Lake County (Clermont) is a WAY better place to train then Tampa. Almost everyone I talk to the trains in Tampa drives to San Antonio or Clermont on the weekend to cycle. The NTC has a GREAT pool and the clay road is the place to run. I live in Howey in the Hills and there is NO better place to cycle than Lake County! Z

Dewey Robbins is a GREAT road up here in Howey. Some nice hills and NO TRAFFIC. I take it west from Hwy 19 to Hwy. 27 - go south on 27 about 1/2 mile and head west on Bridges Road - you can take that road all the way to Bushnell. I've seen Nate and Sarah out on Dewey Robbins. Text me next time you are up this way and I'll jump on your rear wheel for a few miles. 352-801-0019. Z
