What do you pack for lunch
My wife pointed out to me the other day that the lunch I pack for work every day looks like I'm heading to elementary school:
Salad
Apple/banana
Protein bar
Pack of instant oatmeal
Dole fruit cup in water (normally peaches)
Snack pack of chocolate teddy grahams
Gummy fruit snacks
Maybe some mixed nuts

Ok, so it is pretty childish. What do you guys pack in your lunch?
(By the way, I'm too poor to eat out every day, and I don't take a lunch break, I just eat it throughout the day as I work)

2 x greek yogurt cups
2 servings of fruit
serving of nuts

Sandwich.. P&B or some meat (chicken/turkey) on wheat
Like 5 or 6 of those cuties (Clementines)
mixed nuts.. no peanuts since I don't enjoy them.
or some popcorn.

My drink of choice is Vietnamese Coffee... keeps me awake for afternoon meetings.

When I do pack lunch which isn't often these days, it's a Subway footlong too, except the chips go with it (Baked Lays). Sometimes I take the 6" with double meat instead of the footlong.

Kids don't take salad to school for lunch. Except the ones wanting to get beat up.

6oz Chicken w/ some sauce for flavor
1/2 c. Brown rice
Salad

I typically cook in bulk 1-2 times per week. It makes packing easier.

A fair point haha!

Thanks for the response people! I like some of the ideas here, I've tried pb&j but I found it to be a bit too many calories for low nutritional value for me so I switched to salad. I think rice could work, I might add that in as a good filler some days.

I would love to grab a sub or something every day and avoid this tedious lunch-packing, but I work in an expensive area of NYC and definitely cannot afford eating out around here.

Very similar in fact - (though my wife made me stop buying fruit snacks)
Sandwich (meat and cheese - pb&j isn't filling enough)
Fruit
Protein granola bar
Yogurt
Granola
Peanut Butter Pretzels
Trail Mix
Carrots and Hummus
String Cheese

Huge salad with kale, mixed greens, turkey, carrots, broccoli slaw, tomatoes, walnuts, raisins/cranberries, celery salt and oregano & drizzled with olive oil with an apple for lunch.

Morning snack is almonds and walnuts.

Afternoon is either carrots and humus when not swimming after work or a Lara Bar if I'm swimming.

Several 24 oz bottles of water during the day.

Nutritionally, I would put the PBJ ahead of everything on your list except the salad, piece of fruit, and mixed nuts. Everything else is junk food.

I usually hit up McDonalds on my way to the pool. If I don't feel too bloated I'll get 500-800 yards in. Then to recover I grab a Frosty from Wendys.

My lunch mainstay is salads, but it's also pretty easy to throw together Chipotle-style bowls - protein (meat/beans), rice, veggies etc. Even easier if you do all the prep on Sunday night.

Rice. Lots of rice.

Nuts.

Amy's burrito or one of their frozen dinners.

Chocolate

Banana

Protein bars

Canned dolmas

Not all at the same time. ;)

Every Sunday I grill a ton of chicken breast for Sunday dinner and then have leftover chicken breast for lunch all week... My typical lunch is:

Chicken breast
Pre-cut steam bag of vegetables (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower)
Brown Rice, farro, or quinoa
Apple and an orange

Interesting. I'm definitely not a nutrition expert but when I used to pack pb&j every day I struggled to not gain weight. Granted I was eating 2 of them every day, but 1 just never felt like enough. I looked at the nutrition facts on the bread and realized that between my 2 sandwiches I was getting out 350-400 calories from the bread. But really I'm a grazer and I eat constantly, I would love to find at least one more snack I can munch throughout the day that actually provides some nutritional value (unlike the junk I currently pack). I guess I could just get more fruit, but it is not filling for some reason.
