If an Ironman race becomes "wetsuit optional" rather than "wetsuit legal", do most people wear wetsuits or not? I am doing Ironman Lake Placid next week and have heard that some years this is how it was.

When it is wetsuit optional it usually means they are allowed but remove you from awards and slot allocation.

At Challenge AC it was optional. I chose not to wear mine. I wasn't anywhere near AG awards but wanted to do it without one. If a race goes to optional, I don't want it. Maybe it is a weird pride thing, I don't know.
I'm glad I did not wear it. I would have been super hot in it.
