That's a lot of swimming.
Watching the stream, I just thought of something more boring than trying to swim that long.

LL - Thanks for posting this, had no idea this was happening. Just to put this into triathlete perspective, and American yards perspective, he's swimming in a 25 m pool. If we assume a 30 sec break for refueling every 20 min, that 1.5 min/hr or 36 min/24 hr, which leaves 23.4 hr or 1404 min for actual swimming. If we assume he swims the 102,000 m in 1404 min, this implies 1020 x 100 m in 1404 min or 1:22.6/100 m, or about 1:14.3/100 yd, or 12:23/1000 yd for 113 x 1000 yd on zero rest. How long can YOU hold 1:14/100 and/or 12:23/1000??? Phenomenally impressive IMO.

Looks like he is hardly kicking at all which makes sense to conserve energy. But to hold 115 for that long wow

A 1:14/15/100 yd is prob slower than he normally ever swims, i.e. he prob normally warms up at 1:10/100 yd, or maybe even 1:08/100 yd.

I couldn't get the live streaming to work; can you count his strokes per length??? I'd guess around 14-15 per 25 m length. Also, how many hrs has he been swimming at this point???

I only did a sample of about 5 and it seemed to be 13-14.

At 17 hours he was at 74 km. At that pace he would do 104 km. Lots of tumble turns

Interesting, thanks. I would predict that as he tires, his spl may increase to 14-15, maybe even 16. Will be interesting to see.

Is "tumble turn" the common usage in Europe, Australia, etc, for what we in the U.S. and I think Canada, call "flip turns"??? Just curious...:) Will be interesting to see how many Km he ends up with in a few more hours.

I think of that as a Brit thing. That's what my British friends would call them.

Before living in the US for ten years, I would have said tumble turn, now its flip turn.

Ah, thanks mate!!! Sounds like "tumble turn" is used in many former British colonies, excepting the U.S. and Canada.

Tumble turn sounds cool. But maybe for Brits and Kiwis flip turn sounds cool?

Ya, hugely impressive. Using the assumptions I posted previously, he averaged about 1:24.7/100 scm. Mighty fast for almost 100,000 meters straight. :)

Actually, the ST poster who really needs to weigh in is John Kenney; IIRC, he won the U.S. 25K OW Nationals a few yrs ago and then competed at the world champs.

Personally, I prefer flip turn just b/c it seems easier to say. "Tumble turn" just doesn't quite roll off of my tongue as easily; "flip turn" is faster to say, for me, than "tumble turn", though tumble turn does have alliteration going for it. :)

Sounds better with the english/scot/aus/kiwi accent than if a yank said it...
