Velodrome Aero Field Testing Write-up by Dean Phillips at Fitwerx

Thought this would be of interest to Slowtwitchers. Dean is very meticulous about his own setup that helped him to multiple Masters World Championships in the 3K Pursuit. In this blog he discusses an Ironman setup for his business partner Marty. You can link to other great blog posts about other testing he has done.

Edit: Master 40-44 Pursuit is 3K not 4K.

If I remember correctly, I think Dean's TT setup (not track) is on a S5. He holds lots of TT records in New England.

I'm toying with the idea of going to see him for a refit going into this season.

Correct, I know at one point he was definitely on an S5 for his TT setup. He was bumping up against UCI extension limits, etc. otherwise. Not sure how much has changed.

I would go see Dean.

Here's a picture of Marty rocking it at IM Mont Tremblant in 2015. We didn't take many position pics from the velodrome testing since we were both testing at the same time!

The velodrome testing was a blast. If anybody has any questions we're happy to share our experiences. I have a write-up on my personal testing which included some track frame, wheelset, and aerobar testing. My article is linked at the beginning of Marty's write-up.

Thanks Robert, and great to see a response from you. I've used your method of field testing for years, written about it, and helped many customers use it as well. I've even field tested on my track bike in the field quite a bit the last couple years. I did a Chung Method write up a couple years ago:

Thanks for responding,
