UPDATE -- tips for removing braze on fdr hanger
Quote | Reply
Well, that was easy. 15 minute job including removing residue and painting.

Drilled out rivits with 1/8" bit
Punched back, but couldn't punch all the way through
Heat gun
Pry off fdr hanger
used 3/8" bit to drill off remaining fat part of rivit
Punched into frame
Removed glue residue with goof off
Wiped with isopropol alcohol and let dry
Masked
Painted with black plasti-dip.

I've got a 2015 venge that is used 95% as a crit bike.

Have been using 1x11 for 2 full seasons and don't see myself going back.

I've also crashed this frame about a dozen times (and it shows), so not too worried about losing value if/when I sell it.

I'm thinking of drilling out the rivits that hold the fdr hanger and using a heat gun to remove it from the frame. If I screw it up, will probably get cyclocarbon to fix it.

But wondering if anyone has tips for removing the fdr hanger from a carbon frame like this.

Thanks
Andy

That's how it's done.

I was going to say don't do it, but on an old crashed frame? Sure go for it. Let us know how it goes.

Me , I would leave the base attached to the frame and just dremel off the bit that sticks up. That way it's mostly gone and I'd just have to paint a very small edge and not a pretty large area if you remove the base

It won't look as clean ( if you are good at painting ) but from 6 feet away I bet you wouldn't be able to tell the difference

this is what i did

I am not sure I would use the heat gun if you don't have to. Heat can soften the epoxy that holds the carbon of the frame together.

I used one of the box cutter razor blades. I put the blade between the hanger and frame and tapped on the back of the blade to slowly work the blade between the two. I moved around the edge of the hanger until it popped off. This was on a Shiv.

Yeah gen1 7 series.

As for the heat gun...meh, skip it if you want. Loosening some of the epoxy in that area (if it did) doesn't concern me, but ymmv of course, I'm sure you could get it off without the gun with enough work.
