Twitchers of Northern/Central NJ, any fitters and physical therapists you'd recommend for knee pain
Quote | Reply
Long story short, I raised saddle position on my TT bike by 0.75 cm last May, and I have been experiencing knee pain ever since. The position eventually was moved back down in July, but it didn't help. Somewhere around that time, I think I did enough damage that I begin to feel discomfort on the road bike as well. I stopped cycling altogether in August and saw a therapist, but the strengthening routine have not seemed to help much.

In the two months during which I barely rode, I lost 20% of my aerobic power, and my recovery has been hampered by continuing discomfort on the bike. If anyone has suggestions on fitters who's good with dealing with knee issues in Northern NJ, let me know. Hopefully it's just a cleat alignment issue, though I don't know.

Thanks in advance!

If you live/work near Morristown, would highly recommend Laura Fucci. PT with ART training/certificaion, avid cyclist. Works out of Atlantic Health system.

Thanks for the suggestion.

This may make it really awkward though: i probably saw one of he colleagues when i did my PT work. Location was 111 Madison Ave (which was shared with Parisi Speed School). Is that where she also works?

Unless you have issues with the group overall I wouldn't worry about having seen other PTs in that location (and yes, that is where she is located.) I've been her patient in the past and also seen others there when she's not available. No drama. She also referred me to a specialist outside of that group (hand OT) when it was beyond her scope of expertise. Re-reading your OP, if you're looking for a bike fitter that is completely different. Never found anyone in M'town that I would consider "expert" on fits.

Hi Echappist,

I'm not a doctor but I'm wondering why you haven't seen an orthopedic to see what is going on with your knee. I know I would want to have a complete MRI to see what structurally could be happening. (You may have seen a doctor, I can't tell from the post.)

That would make the most sense to me, as then you would know what is wrong with your knee and could then decide if PT or another program could resolve it.

I wish you the best and I'm not trying to say you must do one thing or another. I fully support the rehabilitative path you decide to take. My question was the first thing to come to mind when I read your post.

Thank you!

Mark

thanks for the info :) Funny enough, I looked up Ms. Fucci and found an article she wrote about knee pain, in particular importance of stretching glutes. I think i'll incorporate those into my routines

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to chime in. I should have been more clear in my original post, as I did see an orthopedic doctor; the insurance company wouldn't pay for the PT unless I had a script from the doctor.

Harts Cyclery in Pennington is one of my sponsors and have provided me with excellent service.....highly recommend them. Take a look at their website. Besides offering Guru fitting, Ross (the owner) also works with a couple of well-respected local physical therapy and strength and conditioning guys. PM me if you are interested and I'll give you his best contact info.
