It normally does in April, but hotels will if not already way before the race does.

hotels are sold out for sure. Next step is a solid 20-30 min drive off-site.

Yes, camped once and my family loved it as well. Not costly either and nice restrooms with showers in the camping area. Stayed in the lodge last time I was there it was great, but the first year I did it I waited to the last minute to get room and stayed two towns over.

Yes the park has lots of spots for rv and tent camping. Last year my teammate and I just brought a van each, shared one rv camping lot, and slept in our respective vans on air mattresses. We had electric as well as easy access to the restroom/bath houses. I'm wanting to say $24/night and it was a blast. Only major regret was not bringing a little space heater to sleep with! Froze my butt off, I could have just plugged it right in at our site, oops
In between races during the day you can also just hang out up at the lodge if you want. It's massive with tons of couches, rocking chairs, and tv's etc on several floors at no cost

Hi
I dont know the area and I checked their site for lodging. It seems the Shawnee state park conference center is fully booked but I cannot find the site to book campsites!
The closest campsite I found was pike lake and its 40miles away! The closest hotels were 16miles away. How and where did you book the campsite?
Thanks very much!

Sure here's the park website and the reservation site
http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/shawnee#reserve
http://ohiostateparks.reserveamerica.com/
Campground is inside the park and you can just bike over to the start with your gear
I stayed at a hotel in town one time too and it wasn't too bad... Adds maybe 20min drive to the race. If you hang out at the lodge between races Saturday you only have to make the hotel drive once per day

It shows everything as sold out and has for a while now. That's disappointing.

The lodge and the cabins?
They sell out faster then an Ironman.

FWIW -
I have a 100% discount code for 2016 entry that expires in 8 days - would really like to get someone to use it.

I was able to pick up a lodge room a month or so before the race last year. Spots become available. I'm glad we were able to, staying off the race site would suck.

Yeah, I had a friend get lucky, but it's not something I would count on :)

Are you talking about the campground or the lodge/cabins? Last year I was able to pick up a campground spot probably less than a month out from the race. As others mention sometimes lodge spots open up but those usually book a year in advance. Worst case Scenario the hotels in town will have openings, and it's not that bad of a drive. Chances are there are probably campgrounds just outside the park as well

^ This. Also, are you sure the lodge is sold out? Their website may say so, but they reserve a huge block for the race, which are given out by HFP. Last year I got a spot at the Lodge in early January by registering through the website.
