With the exception of newbies how does an RD who has a history of cancelling events find any repeat business? A piss poor RD usually can only stay in business several years before they run out of suckers.
I have done one of Pacific Sports, LLC's events multiple times (Long Beach Triathlon, in SoCal). The only issue I saw was one year (2015) they had a major screw up by not having personnel or a timing mat out at the run turnaround, so a bunch of us over-ran it. I think I ran around 4.2 miles instead of 3, some people went even further, including the elites. They didn't handle it very well, but they did at least try to rectify the results by examining people's Garmin data files, etc.
I never heard about the shady business practice stuff until the news broke about this year's Newport Beach swim. Given what I know now, I'll be careful to avoid them in the future. And I admit that will suck, because the Long Beach Tri is a local, very convenient, and pretty fun race. But yeah, I can't justify giving any money to an organization (or person) who will operate that way. Anyway... that's why I for one provided repeat business... lack of knowledge about the underlying dealings of the RD and their company.
