TriRig Omega brake review / feedback
Looking to make my Cervelo P3 more slippery by getting a set of aero brakes. Thoughts / feedback / experience with Tririg's Omega Brakes (original and X).

Note: my bike is Magura-less as I swapped out the 3T handlebar for an old school Hed Blackdogs (that are not compatible with the Maguras).

Thanks

I have the originals on a 2011 P3, the install is a little different from normal brakes, so takes a bit to get a handle on the adjustments (or did me at least).

No issues with braking power/control on aluminum or carbon rims at all.

The Omega X install is about as easy as I could imagine a brake install being. Adjustment is straightforward too. Braking is solid. Other than the price, there's no reason to not get them.

+1. The newer Omega is so simple to install and adjust you will wonder why nobody thought of this in the first place.

The stopping power is decent and probably on par with most mid-level components.

They lack that sort of high-end quality appearance that you get from Dura Ace or Campy and the covers are pretty basic plastic, but these are monitor issues.

Oh I almost forgot. Tbox and packaging is very much like something Apple would do.

I have the Omega X and love them. They have a little over a year and around 5K miles. Ditto everyone else's comments. Installation and adjustment is a breeze. Stopping power is way better than my bike's factory brakes. I also paired them with Shimano's TT brake levers, which have a stronger pull ratio. Looks and quality are excellent.

How easy is it to remove the front wheel? I have a fork-mounted roof top bike carriers so I'm constantly taking the front wheel on and off to transport my bike.

I'll agree with the others. I've had the old generation on the front and just added an "X" to the rear. The mechanic who worked on my bike did the Trek SC manual and said they were the easiest to work on and adjust that he had seen. I agree that they are very friendly for me to adjust. As I have new wheels too, it's hard to say how they compare for stopping power, but they are far better than the ones previously on my bike. I love them!

there is a grub screw in each arm that you can widen the space between the arms (independently) to remove wheels/adjust clearance. I swap between an H3 and a wider Jet often.

That depends a ton on how close you have your brakes to the rims and how fat your tires are. The brake does not have a quick release like a lot of standard road brakes.

I am running Flo CC wheels with 25mm Continental GP4KII tires, and I have my pads pretty close. I can easily remove my front and rear wheels without pad contact. However, when I had the 25mm tires on narrower rims, I had to spread the pads a bit further away from the rims to get the wheels on and off easily.

Depends on what the baseline is, but ERO thinks it is more on the order of 30 seconds to 40 seconds per 40K.

That claim doesn't pass the sniff test.

I am just posting the stuff I have seen around the Internet of Brilliance. I saw the Tririg paper that you wrote. Very cool-- your time savings was estimated at around 5 seconds versus a Dura Ace brake. Maybe ERO will jump into the thread to clarify. I think I remember a discussion on it, but I cannot find it now.

Edit: I found the old thread. You had the last post, and no one responded to it.

5 sec for front brake only? Or front and rear is worth 5 sec?

I've got the originals on my Cervelo P2. They aren't as good as my Shimano dual pivots, but they still work OK (pads make a bigger difference to me). Never really had any issues other than paint on plastic cover getting discolored from cleaning. The one thing I really like about them is how easy they are to change for different width wheels (my race wheels are way wider than my training wheels). I can't personally say they are any faster than normal brakes, since I've never tested them myself. Overall, I've been happy with them.

Works well on my NP3. I had to do a little Dremel work to get the cover to fit properly.

I'm running regular Ultegra brakes. Do you think I'll lose braking power?

I can lock my Omega's up. You might lose some measurable power if you did a test... but real life you won't know it.

Have the original on my AR1...been there for 4 or 5 years and still works great.

Just got the X to put on my IA frd as I love the ability to dial in width between training and race wheels. When I was putting them on I had an issue with one of the brake shoe screws for the pads being stripped or seized tight. I emailed Nick (it was a Saturday). Early Monday I got email saying he sent 2 new holders out. Great customer service!

Real-life brake power comes from the brake *not* locking up.

My Omega setup seems to have a bit of an "instant on" feel. There's not much space between nothing at all and locking up. But my system includes HED Corsair levers, which are far from a best-in-class brake setup. The Corsair/Omega is good enough to stop the bike at stoplights or after a TT. It's not what I'd want for a technical mountain descent.

Barely adequate tool. Better braking is pretty high up on my list for what I want out of my next TT rig (which may still involve the Omega, not bashing on the brake at all).
