Trek adds disc brakes to the Emonda after saying they didn't believe in road disc brakes
Quote | Reply
Just as I thought they would, Trek decided to go against what they said and release an Emonda with disc brakes.

Remember this thread?

So....they totally talked about how they didn't want to bring disc brakes to road bikes. So tell me where I'm wrong?

No, he said that for a bike like the Emonda, which is focused on weight, the buyer might not want to take the 600-800g weight increase of adding discs, and for an aero focused bike like the Madone, a rim brake is always faster.

In no way did the spokesman say they didn't want to bring discs to road bikes...especially considering they already HAD done so with the Domane.

Penalty upheld...play on.

He talks about the Domane being the ultimate platform for disc brakes. Sooner or later, your beloved HED Jets are going to have disc brakes.

Here comes the personal attacks. If you haven't noticed, I know about all gear that comes out.

But you keep working on that best in class rim brake design. We won't be waiting for the results.

They saw the results of the Aero White Paper and realized the error of their ways.

Out of curiosity, did you even watch the first video? The entire first minute of it is him harping on about how great disc brakes are on a road bike.

Now I'm guessing (seeing as you know everything about new bikes and all) that the new Emonda is lighter than the old one. Light enough to build a road disc bike to under the legal weight limit. . . . . .

I don't understand what you feel you are contradicting in that video. They mention the weight and aero penalties and they say that climbers probably don't want them, but it's basically and advertisement for for road disc brakes.

At what point exactly did they say they "didn't believe in road disc brakes?"
