Trek Speed Concept Brake Width

I can't fit my zipps on my trek SC 9. Do certain wheels not fit? Is there an easy way to widen the brake pads or should I just take it in?

What year is it? The old model is a little more work on the rear, but the front is really easy. Allen wrench opens up the front on the fork right by the brakes. Old generation may require you to swap some spacers. The new model has a wrench spot as well on the non drive side. Not too difficult on either one though.

2014. I'm just not a bike guy. If it is adjustable, I guess I'll start playing with it.

If it's a 14 it's super easy. One Allen wrench should do it. And you shouldn't need to take anything apart. There are slots for it to go into.

2mm hex through the holes in the left and right sides of the front brake cover

same wrench will adjust both sides of the rear brake through a slot in the cover on the nondrive side

If you have carbon clinchers, you will need to change the brake pads as well...

did you deflate the tire before putting the wheel on? on my trek sc, my zipps fit, but i can swap wheels without deflating, putting on the wheel, then reinflating. good luck!

What tires are you running? I was running 23f/25r on my ENVE 8.9's (26f/24r width) and never had to do that.

Send it over to me and I will adjust it for you. Heck I can even break it in for you in Ironman Whistler. I promise to send it back fully adjusted for your zipps before the end of the month. I am assuming it is a size medium.

A lot of the newer wheels (27mm width) are causing huge clearance issues in bikes. My Argon E-118 really can't handle Zipps or Bontrager (New D3 Aeolus) because of wheel flex causing massive rubbing on the brakes.

It's getting to be the case where bike companies are now going to have to widen chainstays or improve brake width clearance to accept certain wheels.

When I got carbon wheels my LBS did something to widen clearance.

I watched.

Mine is a 2011, and the back wheel fit fine, it was the front wheel with new brake pads that I had a lot of trouble eliminating brake rub. Ended up having to switch to narrower spacers for the front brake shoes.
