Training in Lanzarote in October/November

Hello all - I'm new here but have sifted through the messages regarding training in Lanzarote and I wanted to ask anyone that has done IML or used Lanzarote as a training base for some recommendations.
I will be on Lanzarote in October and the first part of November - does PdC offer an easier environment for my family (wife and 3 year old) than La Santa itself? Lanzarote 70.3 will be my first attempt at the half iron distance and I'm wondering if anyone has information on childcare on Lanzarote, bike shipping tips and general recommendations about living/training there.
Thanks in advance,
Fix

I have raced IM Lanzarote twice, both stayed at PdC, once with family (and children). We stayed at the 'Club Oceano', self catering complex with a pool. For training the pool is far too small, but perfect for the children, and the ocean is your playground (but bring your wetsuit, the water is not very warm). Club La Santa provides fantastic facilities for training, but I would probably opt for PdC for a family stay. We preferred self-catering with young children for the flexibility it provides. Childcare: we have always done it ourselves. Bike shipping: normal issues, bike boxes are heavy and airlines charges you. You can rent pretty good bikes in La Santa if this is an issue, but if you want to race abroad at some point you will have to get used to travel with your bike. I hope it helps.

Signed up to Lanza 70.3 - no info on the bike or run course though. Bit silly of me but oh well - it is only 70.3 miles...Surely it can't be 70.3 miles of 14% uphill.....

Having spent a week in March this year training for IM Lanza in Lanzarote and spent race week on the Island, we decided to stay at Sands Beach Resort Costa Tequise. Emma-Kate Lidbury & Rachel Joyce used the same location for a winter camp in 2011, so we figured if good enough for them good enough for us. What I would say (as a dad of 2) is thats SBR (
http://www.sandsbeach.eu
) caters for the family triathlete. It has 6 pools one of which is a brand new 25m 6 lane training pool & its own small beach with knee deep warm sea water - make sure you get one of these beach front huts if you can. Sea swimming is easy with a choice (depending on tides) of 2 areas within a 5 minute walk of the grounds of resort. Running is again 5 minutes and you have left the resort and out onto the trails with a choice of hilly or undulating routes.
Juan Carlos (GM) is very active in the sports scene in Lanza and will make you feel massively welcome and really does offer the can do attitude. They will cater for any dietary request. They are not trying to compete directly with La Santa but offer an active training base for the AG'er with or without a family. I will be racing the 70.3 in November and will without a doubt be staying at SBR, there are a number of pro's that base themselves out of the resort including the winner of IM Lanza 2012. There will always be somebody to ride with, they have there own on site bike repair shop as well
Costa Tequise is a smaller resort to that of PDC but in my opinion is better as it contains less of the beer swilling holiday person. Access to the famous 10k Tabayesco climb (which features during the 70.3) is about 15km away.
I have fallen for the island and have easy access to it (living in the UK) but what I think makes it extra special is the attitude of Juan Carlos and the rest of the team at SBR. If you do decide to book in then make sure you advise at point of booking that you are racing the 70.3. JC will arrange for bike transfer, early breakfasts etc.... making our lives as easy as possible is what he seems to strive for.
Hope this has been useful to you but please do feel to drop me a note should you require more information about the island.

Awesome tri-oxon thanks for the heads up. Only been out to Mallorca & Switzerland and this will be my first foray to the Canary Islands in about 10 years (and 1st time with a bike). Might return in Feb if it is decent.
Just like to know what I am in for. I did find a bit of info. Swim is 1.5ish laps with a bit of run inbetween it would seem. Bike looks like it could be windy. Any hints on the course?
Car hire? Required or not?

swim is in a saltwater (i think) lagoon at Club La Santa 2 laps, safe & fast.... Bike goes out on part of the IM circuit from Famara (steady climb) and then reverses the IM bike route up the LZ1 up to Tabayesco (sp) which then you climb avg grad about 8% for 10k, great climb, awesome views once you hit the top of Haria then its a big fast descent with a little lump all the way to Teguise and possibly if I understand correct another descent all the way to T2. So all the climbing is in the 1st 60k of the bike.....
Run out and back pretty flat nothing to challenging in terms of terrain but!!!! Then you have the midday heat and wind to contend with, sheltered from the wind on the run (I think) but the bike will be wind in all the up the LZ1 if the trade winds are blowing as per normal.
If you decide to stay at SBR, give JC a shout and will certainly offer more insight. I will be staying there also, so happy to meet up for a reccy or two...

Bike WILL be windy, it is Lanzarote. From the course description I would say it goes Famara - Teseguite - left to Tabayesco (before the roundabout in Arrieta) - then Haria - Los Valles - Mozaga - Tao - La Santa. So climbing is only an issue at Tabayesco, the rest is fighting the wind :-)
Just six more months and it is training camp there again!!!

Looks like it could change as the official site is currently having a bit of an overhaul.

Signed up for 70.3 Lanzarote in November - staying at LaSanta - any thoughts on road vs. tri bike? First 60K are basically uphill and the Tabayesco climb will be hands on crossbar. Leaning towards a road bike with clip-ons. Only hesitation is with the winds...
