Ok Nate so help out a techno spaz. I have a Garmin 310xt and a Kurt Kinetic road machine. By reading your site I can see that I need to buy a wahoo dongle speed and cadence sensor as well. Does that then plug into the laptop?

Russ here's the bare minimum.

ANT+ USB Dongle
http://www.amazon.com/...317772146&sr=8-1

ANT+ Speed Sensor (this one includes cadence)
http://www.amazon.com/...317772179&sr=8-1

You don't need your 310xt at all. TrainerRoad is a "head unit".

To get going you would plug your USB stick into your computer, launch TrainerRoad and pair your speed/cadence sensor. Then you would select Kurt Kinetic Road machine as your power source.

From there, you are good to go to train with VirtualPower :).

We need to make this stuff more clear on the website. We've had a few people with questions. Let me know if I can clear anything else up.

It would be interesting, although I have my doubts as to how well anyone can really normalize all the connected riders. You have to somehow get power, speed and weight (rider + bike) calibrated correctly between all the riders for it to be meaningful.

This software is absolutely amazing for a Beta. They have Mac compatibility now. I have used it several times with a power tap hub, a power beam trainer, and my Mac hooked up to a big screen TV.

Thanks! We worked really hard on that Mac support. Our first release (2 weeks ago) sucked butt on some macs, but this new one (1 week ago) looks to be really good.

We're planning on ending the free beta at the end of the month. We're going to send out an official e-mail soon about all of that.

Btw, you don't know anyone at saris do you? We REALLY want to directly control the Power Beam Pro. It's totally possible, they control it with a private ant network. They haven't been returning our e-mails though.

How about getting some Sufferfest workouts on the system?

Yes! Already talked to Dave from Sufferton about this. We plan on launching integrated sufferfest videos with structured wattage based workouts on Dec 1st (if we get it done).

We'll make it so you're video will be synced with your workout. That way if you pause (via coasting) the video will pause. Then when you start pedaling it will start again.

You'll still buy your videos from TheSufferFest.com and he gets 100% of his well deserved Sufferfest money. You'll just drop your video file on the TrainerRoad workout to set it up.

I plan on doing an add campaign on slowtwitch about it if we get some sign ups and can fund it. Right now we are almost completely out of money and our wives aren't too keen to give us any more ;).

x2 I signed up and fell in love with it after the first go at it. As a matter of fact I have found myself repeating the line...think of your knees as the tops of pistons. Really good stuff and I would not hesitate to pay for your service and product. Sign me up.

Wow, thanks guys! I hope enough of you guys think that. If I can quit my job and do this thing full time I think I can take indoor training to the next level. Lots and lots of cool things we could do.

Don't know anybody at Saris. I wish I did. I sent you an email requesting that though and a remote app for the iPhone/android platform and integrated video. Amazing stuff thanks so much for creating something like this. It would also be great to be able to upload your own workouts.

Nate,

Would it be technically possible to take course profiles from Garmin Connect data to create a workout? For example, if I do a search for the IM Canada course on Garmin, then I can ride the course i.e. distance and required power for the elevation changes.

Yes, it's technically possible to make distance based workouts and create workouts from GPX workouts and we plan to do it. Check out these feature requests, if you add them together I bet you can figure out where we are going.

Nate,

I'm doing a lot of the data processing that is needed for .gpx to slope for PowerAgent. I've got ideas of what I want to do for .erg files from this, similar to the SufferFest RPE formula that Ted came up with. I have those workouts on the site already. If you guys are parsing PowerAgent .xml files or .erg files, it may be a good resource for your users to load up on.

I think you guys are onto a winning application here and hope that you will have enough people signing up to allow you to continue to develop it further. I will sign up for sure. Love the app and hope that others will as well.

Thanks! Our workout files are in an extended erg format right now.

ErgDB is blocked at work, I'll check it out later.

With the new revisions to the software in the future (i.e. Sufferfest integration) will there be a choice of formats to use like the current format?
Thanks

Yah Mike. So we have Vertical and Horizontal mode right now. I haven't coded it yet, but I think there will be a "Video" option if you're on a Sufferfest workout. You could still do the workout the regular way it is today though.

Great program for me - running it with a fluid 2 and quarq pedal based system. The power numbers have been pretty accurate. Beats buying a CT.

In your situation we would just be reading the power from the Quarq through ANT+. That means they should be as accurate as possible since the Quarq kicks ass.
