Torhans Spilling!!

Can anyone tell me how to stop my torhans bottle from losing half the contents? I have both lids (top and bottom) with the slits. I dont want to use the solid cover as I want to be able to fill it.

Anyone?

Stop using it. That's what I did.

I got my wife the CeeGee sponges, they work almost too well, she has trouble filling! I cut a chunk of sponge and filled the gap between top and bottom lid and I also cut a slit in it hoping that it would assist separating the sponge when she shoved a bottle into it. Any other tips?

I've never had any issues with mine over 3 years now. IMFL last year I didn't even use the solid cover and had no issues, guess I'm lucky?

Where is it coming out of yours exactly as I've only had some spillage immediately after filling it slap full on the fly but a quick swig takes care of that.

I use the solid cover. I put a piece of duct tape on the top of the cover and over the side so it is also attached to the bottle. Lid goes on and off easily easily when I need to fill it and the duct tape means that I don't have to worry about losing it.

They spill like crazy. I am in the market for a new bottle (mine didn't even come with a solid top), however in the meantime I simply place a piece of plastic wrap across the top, then put the lid on. Works great for shorter races with no re-fill. When it comes time to re-fill, you just have to pop a hole in the plastic with your finger then fill. It will leak some from that point on, but I would only be using water from there out due to the huge mess it would be otherwise.

This! I picked up a Cee Gee sponge recently and it solved all the spilling issues with my Torhans. In fact it stopped spilling out of the straw now too. It seems that the Cee Gee sponge must be acting as a shock absorber when the liquid is sloshing around. The downside, as stated elsewhere in this thread, is having a bottle with a giant sponge at the top. I struggled to find a way to quickly put any sort of nutrition in my bottle short of stopping and putting both feet down. I did not get creative though, as another poster here mentioned, cutting away at the sponge to create a solution by hand.

CeeGees worked for me too. Lost the solid top during a race, but it seems it's not needed anyway so I use the slotted. I haven't refilled yet, as training rides only.

Now if I could stop the VR Aero from splashing...... :-(

I still think im going to get splashed every time i go over a bump, they really do work great and its nice not to have all that organic syrup all over the bike!

I ride with the Aero 30 and rarely have trouble even on the bumpy Queen K.

Training I use the solid cover. It's not really much work to fill the thing, pull it off with one hand, grab your bottle with the other and fill. Put bottle away. Switch to using the hand with the cover on and replace.

Race days I just use the slit cover and rarely bother with the inner.

I believe their new torpedo bottle will solve that issue. And there's the duct tape trick mentioned as well.

If anyone wants a CeeGee's sponge I have a couple laying around (still packaged and never used) that I will give to you for free if you just pay for the shipping. The Torhans doesn't work with the new Trek Speed Concept so I have no use for them.

How old is your Torhans>

I've just fitted an Aero 30, with the inner spill baffle and the outer slitted cap. Had first race on Sunday. Hily race, rough roads in places and no issues. One area was strewn with bottles where people's rear carriers had launched their bottles; no spills from the Torhans.

Maybe a new set of caps from Torhans?

Since this thread has been revived, I'll report that I solved the slash by using one of the mesh thingys from my old profile design bottle. If you don't have one, I'd suggest getting a mesh loofa from the local dollar store (the kind people use to wash themselves). Works like a charm. (Washing yourself before stuffing loofa into water bottle is optional and highly variable from person to person.)
