It's a good place to be, quiet and away from things...about a half hour drive to race sight. SAU has a pool that you can go to for $2. Hours are a little limited though. http://www.southern.edu/.../features/pools.html. Running and riding from the area is great. Very low traffic once you get a couple miles away from the school. Ride to the east of the school. Greenway is nice for some chill runs leading up to the race.
