Teach me about the "Cyclist on Highway 1" thread..
I read through page 2 and now there are 4x freaking pages. Should I block off the rest of my afternoon and read it all? Jump to a specific page? Just forget that it exists and there will never be another t3 thread?

Go put on a trucker hat and bump the SurfingLamb coach firing 'twitchhunt thread?

Please help.

Can't help b/c i gave up after page 1 but i too am interested in the "Cliff Notes" version. I just can't believe that thread has racked up 1056 posts (at last count) and it just talks about cyclist behavior/etiquette:)

97 cyclists agreed they want to live.
3 cyclists lectured their rights to ride in the middle of a lane, but no one argued against that point.
1 of those 3 lecturers thought he was rosa parks.

Wow, that is a sad excuse for a thread. That Rosa Parks dude is going to get himself killed some day, either shot like the guy in CO or just flat run over really hard by a 60 mph vehicle.

I am terrified to every ride PCH again in case I become "the cyclist on PCH."

Just ride in the middle of the lane. . . .I hear that it should alleviate all fears you have.

Great, now the New Testament.

you're much smarter than me.

I wasted hours being YELLED AT about STATISTICS which, IF I IGNORED THEM, would GET ME KILLED.

I don't, however, think your thread will make 1K posts. (THANK FREAKING GOD.)

When you're an EDGE RIDER the CAGE DRIVERS can't see you and you might get run down from behind, so you should TAKE THE LANE and CONTROL AND RELEASE.

Oh damn. Say you posted that in the thread and I just missed it.

But I don't believe that video is real. All that "evidence" posted by those guys proves the best place to be is in front of a car where the driver naturally looks. Even if they are going 45 mph+, texting , eating, surfing porn, you get the point.

"In the world I see you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Towers. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying stripes of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway." T Durden

It was in the thread, you missed it, and the zealots "dismissed" it by explaining away how the driver didn't follow the theory.

If you suggest that cyclists should ride in a shoulder known to be wide, in condition, and debris-free, you're an ANTI-CYCLIST-BIGOT who RECOGNIZES cyclists' rights but doesn't RESPECT them.

Among 2/3 lecturer's, there was a strong undertone that you should ride in the middle even when there's a wide shoulder not only because they claim it makes you safer, but because they want to make a point to drivers and assert their rights.

95rpm's last post kinda encapsulates the thread: after 1000 posts of people saying "riding in the shoulder is often much safer", he posts a video demonstrating his preferred technique on a road without a shoulder, thus proving nothing.

I assumed that reading epic threads such as that were a right of passage. I was on page 17 or 18 after two days but my browser crashed and I'm too lazy/frightened to try and figure out where I left off.

Thank god - finally. I god to page 18 of the thread before discovering this one. Now I wasted about half a days work - to whom do I bill this time?

Btw - at what page did the actual cyclist on Hw1 chime in? Did he Chime in?

All I can say is that 12 of the 255 threads on my main forum page thingy have more views. Will edit concerning posts.

Promised edit: 4/225 have more posts than the "Duffy Thread."

You probably know what Critical Mass rides are. Imagine if everyone rode their bike as a one-man critical mass ride. Block the road and flip drivers off, god damn it, it's your God-given right to take the lane. Pissing drivers off is the only way to educate them and win their love and respect.

your time was not a waste. that half-day's work you lost justifies my half-day's work. it's what keeps Gaia in balance.

Dan, sometimes I really wish we had a "like" button for posts. This one is a subtle little gem.

Dan's ego might grow beyond its already uncontrollable size if we had a "like" button. That's why I've held off putting one on.

We are thinking about adding one though. Except for on Dan's posts. No one will be able to like anything Dan writes.
