They're crashing in the neutral zone before the race even starts. Should be interesting!

It has been interesting so far. Really crappy luck for Greipel today, hopefully he will find some better luck for the finishing sprint.

Sagan started the day with a bell on his bars.

The peleton seems to have a lot of respect for DZ, they are not giving him much of a leash. Probably doesn't help that they cut it a bit too close yesterday.

Given the frequency of crashes (neutral zone today... superb) I'm not sure it's an entirely absurd notion. I'm more sure that the UCI Kommissaries will declare it a fairing.

that is absolutely correct. it is without doubt fear of the great DZ driving the pace of the peleton today. But it is futile, DZ is saving 27 watts and cannot be stopped.

Carl, calm down bro. I'm totally super serious here.

My guess is he gets caught at 100m from the line, no aero helmet and I saw him take a drink, not once but twice. This guys gotta get a clue. Maybe ST can start a donation program to get him in WT..

On a serious note if the group stays away it wont be DZ winning the stage.

yeah, apparently prudhomme's hand in designing 'exciting' courses has been particularly strong this year; haven't we already had at least one crash per stage so far? some of the corners i've seen the peloton taking looked pretty dodge to me. . .

every single year, everyone imagines this year has way more crashes than normal.

and yes we have had two 'flat' stages with classics style finishes that were pretty cool

I have a sudden urge to attach some piping to the output of a Jetski. That looked awesome.

For those that missed it:
-One of the helicopter scenery shots had two guys in a lake - one was on a jetski, and one had a couple pipes in his hands and one going down from a board beneath him, and was doing backflips and thrusting himself out of the water just on the jet of water coming from the tubes.

Agreed. But moot as they will be caught.

The finish is going to be an absolute mess. Very sharp turn with 800m to go. It may get very, very ugly.

Train tracks crossing the road just before the turn too. Hopefully the rain stays away from the finish, some of those clouds looked pretty ominous.

Purely conjecture but I would say it has a lot to do with the absence of a dominant leadout train (aka HTC) being the primary controller of the front. Many more teams trying to contest for front positions this year, which I find makes these finishes more interesting, but certainly more skittish.

x2 on the false flat finishes.

Wow mega-crash just now.

Tom D abandoned. Probably more abandonments to come from that last yard sale.

Sagan cleared and in peleton. Will be interesting to see if(when) he makes a move on the final turns.

I like Sagan but he hasn't shown the ability to win a pure sprint at this level. This is his last chance for a while..
