TdF Stage 16 - Spoilers! Quote | Reply

Another great day for Tommy V!

Evans now totally out of it, shame for him as I'm sure he'd have liked to still be at least in touch come the final TT. Froome and Wiggins have looked pretty solid in keeping tabs on Nibali. One more chance tomorrow for him to try and get away.

This tour is over. The only way it can be exciting now is if Froome attacks Wiggans. How awesome would that be?

How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?

Cuddles looked like rubbish today. He really is one of the most boring GC riders to watch.

He was boring even as a winner. Now he just looks out of shape. Sort of pitiful.

Can someone make me a animated GIF of him throwing a hissy fit when he flatted (due to tacks) and Teejay rode off without him.

And man, Tommy V.

At least BMC grew a pair and let Tejay ride for GC, and try to keep his white jersey. Can only wonder if they allowed this days ago when it was clear Cadel didn't have the legs.

Be interesting to see Tejay's TT performance in a few days, be a good indicator of how fresh his legs are and how much he might have had in the tank if he'd been free to do his own thing.

Re: TdF Stage 16 - Spoilers! [cartsman] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

he was 4th in the first TT, and he looks pretty good, well at least for today.

not sure if you saw how Tejay had to continually slow down and wait for Cadel in the Alps.

Tejay in now in 6th ahead of Cadel.

a battle of super domestiques, Froome vs. Tejay, would have been awesome.

TVG wasn't tied to Evans today and lost a chunk of time to Froome, there is not and would not have been a battle between them. Froome is a podium with winning potential and TVG is a top 5 sort of guy. Give TeJ a few years and he'll be there, just not this year.

Evans is dreadful to watch. I wish BMC had ridden more for Tejay. He has the talent and legs it seems.

It might happen, I'm pretty sure Wiggins will ultimately be disqualified because his chops violate the spirit and reverence of the sport.

Seriously guys, I can't be a fan of those chops.

Oh, no, I totally agree with you, he's not ready, yet. He just said he was not given permission to go until the Aspin, when it was clear Cadel was going backwards and the rest of the team was there to support him.

TVG would have been top 5 for sure, he certainly can ride with the guys in 4th - 6th.

They look better there because his hair is longer, now his hair is shorter and the chops stand out more.

This is why you shouldn't watch the TdF with your wife. I heard about how hot Fabian Cancellara was for 3 days.

Oi, short term memory loss, huh? Tejay was racing in the second group behind Evans on the first two mountain stages, expending energy for the white jersey competition but completely worthless as a helper. Then his legs suspiciously came around during the TT, and he fumbled the team tactics the first day in the alps by exposing Cadel's weakness during their two-up attack (which I put down more to inexperience than selfishness, but it doesn't change the facts). Tejay has sacrificed about one minute in service of Cadel, a lot less than the time he's lost himself on any number of other stages where Cadel was completely isolated. The team doesn't abandon the team captain and defending champ because he loses a minute on a bad day. You wait and see if he bounces back. Tejay's a great talent, but screw him.

This isn't addressed specifically to you, but to everyone who's crying about Tejay's "sacrifice."

what is your definition of exciting? wins in a classic? solo wins? wins from small group? wins by attacking on the descent?

nothing wrong with not liking a rider, but don't use the bogus claim that he's somehow boring to watch

I was rooting for this to happen, but it looked at the end like Froome was out of gas.

Re: TdF Stage 16 - Spoilers! [echappist] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

A suitcase of courage.

I think dominating, gutsy solo mountain wins make a rider exciting. TTing to victory and marking other rider's solo attempts like Cadel did last year is boring. I don't think that is a bogus claim.

But you are also right, I don't like the guy. Last year everyone said he came out of his shell, but he seems to have returned to that shell this year now that things aren't going his way.

Ultimately, I don't think winning the Tour makes you exciting. I won't remember Wiggins' 2012 campaign and Tour win as that exciting. Dominating? Sure, but not exciting. He used the TT to gain a lead, and then rode Froome's wheel to victory. I understand team tactics, but you can't say that it wouldn't have been MORE exciting today if it had just been Wiggins and Nibali out there. With Froome it was just inevitable that Nibali's attacks would fail.

My definition of an exciting rider is one who goes out there and makes things happen. Whether that's getting in breakaways, attacking on climbs, attacking on descents, anybody who does anything to stop each stage from being a procession from start to finish. Voigt is exciting. Voeckler is exciting. Sagan is exciting. Contador used to be exciting with those sudden bursts of acceleration that used to leave people flailing in his wake. Some GC contenders are exciting, but normally only when they're chasing the yellow jersey, not when they're wearing it. E.g. Schleck's big attack last year.

Thank you! I feel like the people who say this either never actually watch races or are blinded by some irrational distaste from the past. It is demonstrably false that Cadel is a boring (non-attacking) rider.

Well, then Evans fits your bill....until today, he was attacking ona regular basis...uphill, downhill, ont he flats coming into finishes. Wiggins and SKY were simply too strong.

Regardless, this has been the most boring TdF since....1988? Cr@p stage today, cr@p route overall, cr@p race. The lack of true GC contenders, the decimation of "B" level contenders by crashes and a boring route has led to a truly uninspred race.
