Tarmac vs Tarmac disc
Looking at getting a new tarmac and was just wondering if anyone has any experience with both versions. I'm tending towards the disc version as the majority of my training is on the hills however I can get the standard tarmac quite a bit cheaper. Any thoughts?

i've had both, currently have the disc version - love it, best all-round bike I've ever owned. has a few issues (for me) in the lack of thru-axles and the totally limited wheel options. Having said that, it is awesome. I've got the S-Works Di2 version.

I took it to France this year and the effortless one-finger braking down the big mountains was brilliant.

My one hang up on disc road bikes at this moment is whether they come out with a thru axle version and what that means for forward compatibility.
Otherwise, if you're interested in the braking performance, it is better than calipers.
Some people will argue otherwise, let 'em.

Years of mountain biking so I know discs are great and am excited about getting them on road bikes. I guess my one hang up atm is the lack of standard for road bikes, I'm assuming you can just buy a hub though and build up your own wheels if no one else produces anything compatible?

Yes, and mainstream hub manufacturers - especially DT Swiss - offer replaceable end caps to adapt to the different standards. The bigger problem is presently other than carbon tubulars, there are not a lot of choices for disc specific road rims as it seems companies such as Zipp and Reynolds are simply pairing rims with molded brake tracks with disc specific hubs.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Considering the UCI is requiring thru-axles on the pro race bikes next year, I'd stay far away from a new bike that did not have thru-axles. Otherwise you are simply buying a bike that has already outdated itself.

Which, merely points out that those wheel manufacturers were basically ignoring the brake track in designing the shapes anyway...i.e. there's NOT the supposed "shape advantage" to disc-specific road rims some like to think there could be :-/
