Tae Hwan Park fails dope test
So he is notified in early December of a failed test. He just wrapped up training in the US with SwimMac's elite program. Seems odd timing to test out a new team when you were just popped for High T levels and a T precurser.

He is blaming a hospital. I say BS. I think the fix was in and now the cats out of the bag.

We'll see where this one goes.

He didn't have great results last year, maybe he needed a boost?

All I know is what's been reported on swimswam, but it looks like something is being lost in translation.

Is a chiro in s Korea the same as a chiro in North america? He asked if the substance was "illegal", if the doc didn't look at the wada list, then he wouldn't say it was illegal. The drug in question is legal, but prohibited for use by athletes.

I expect we'll get clarification.

Regardless of the reasons for it, he will be suspended. It's just a matter of how long, an 18 month ban or longer will probably mean no Olympics.

I have an issue with him blaming the medical staff mostly because there's been athletes banned in other sports for being uneducated, why should it be different for him? Or for that matter Sun Yang?

I'm not saying it would or should be any different. The hearing will go through how this happened, they'll decide how credible his story is and look at other evidence, and that factors into the length of the suspension. Same as any other athlete.

18 month ban retroactive. Korean Olympic Comittee rules should ban him from national team duty for 3 years after the ban ends.

Well, that puts him at being eligible to return to comp just before Rio, but unable to represent S Korea, right? Plus he won't be able to train with SwimMAC (or any other club) in the interim.

They are allowed club training for the last 4 months or so but have to be tested.

I think the rules say must. I say should because I smell a rule being repealed retroactive.

Ya and he could train anywhere in South Korea and stay "under the radar". He's prob never stopped training, just can't swim in any big meets pre-Rio:)

You have a good nose. Although it wasn't all that hard to smell that coming. It reeks of garlic...

At least he's admitting that he is responsible now, even if he isn't admitting that he doped intentionally. Hopefully he does OK on a personal level, has to be hard to deal with.

He needs to stop throwing others under the bus. Too much like Lance.

Well, yeah.

I'm just a softie though. It appears that he's heading in the right direction, even if he hasn't gotten there yet, and may never get there.
