I noticed a few riders use them, I've never even thought about using one...is this something others are using? Does it keep you cooler? Also does anyone wear those mesh tops under their jersey? Talking strictly cycling here,

I do. It keeps the sun off my scalp and sweat out of my eyes.

Good timing.....I just purchased two today from Headsweats. I've never used them, but my bald head is making me.
Made the mistake for the 100+ time of putting sunscreen on my scalp for a long ride in 95+ degree heat. Sunscreen/sweat in eyes don't mix.

Good point, I guess I've never put sun screen on the forehead as my helmet always covers it.

I shave my head and a beanie keeps the sweat out of my eyes until it becomes saturated.
Once it's saturated, there's little sweat benefit to it, but it's still a sun and bug barrier.

I wear a DeSoto skin cooler beanie over my dome and love it.
Keeps me cool (at least somewhat, tri-ing in the SE US isn't known for comfortable temps and humidity), keeps sun out, keeps bugs out.
On the run, I wear a Craft Cool headband.
Don't slow down till it hurts. Then, dont slow down...
