Our family has an opportunity to go to Swaziland, Africa!

Dear Slowtwitch,

Our family has an opportunity to go to Swaziland, Africa! Yes, we are planning on including Everly as well, which will be so amazing considering her story of God’s healing in her life (Link below). Her story has and will continue to change people lives, even all the way to Africa. Megan has been to Africa and continues to have a heavy heart for the beautiful people there to help educate them and show them God’s love. We will be accompanying a pastor and his family from our home church, Brad and Kellie Holck and other church members and friends. They’ve partnered with an organization known as Advocates for Africa’s Childern (AFAC), which is who we will be working with. AFAC is striving to create sustainable projects to provide nutrition, education of HIV/AIDS and other needs for orphans. The village we will be visiting has over 800 orphans and currently AFAC has reached 300+!
AFAC also works to empower churches to care for the orphans in a sustainable way so they do not become dependent. These churches also provide a sanctuary for the people to worship God together! We get the opportunity to help build these churches as well as build water wells for clean water to last and build gardens for food to help preserve their health.
Our family has been heartbroken for these people and we feel moved to help them in ways that is everlasting and most importantly eternal. If you’ve educated yourself on how the spread of HIV/AIDS is wiping out this country it is devastating. Over 6 million of the population in South Africa has HIV/AIDS, the life expectancy is late 40s early 50s years at birth. Majority of families, affected by HIV/AIDS, consist of the oldest child taking care of their siblings because they’ve lost their parents to the disease. This is the main cause of 19% (approximately 3 million) of children being orphaned. Most of these children end up with AIDS because they sell their bodies in exchange for food to feed their families. These are children as young as 7 years old (Everly’s age) who are left behind to care for their siblings. They have little to no access to fresh water and recycle whatever water they can get for drinking, bathing, etc. Megan witnessed these things actually happening when she was there last, it was hard to absorb the pain she felt for these children. They are a hurting people that just need a bit of education on how to survive and what HIV/AIDS is and how to prevent it from spreading. I believe starting in this small village with AFAC has begun a revival in the health of the people as well as their souls. We can only hope to be a part of it so we can further God’s kingdom and do what he has asked us to do to.
For the 3 of us (Megan, Everly and I), we need to raise $10,500 to get there and back for a 2 week trip. We kindly ask that you would consider being a part of our adventure and our calling. Please know that if you cannot give financially we appreciate your prayers, they are much needed. Whether you support through prayers or financially you are a huge part of changing people’s lives. We have placed an envelope inside already addressed and stamped for any donations you have kindly contributed.
Thank you for your love and support.
