Specialized Tri-spoke conversion
I have an old Specialized tri-spoke rear wheel (freewheel style) that I am trying to convert to a front wheel. After taking the 6 speed freewheel off, I cut the 126mm axle to 110mm and re-threaded the axle. I centered the axle back on the wheel without problems, but the axle itself is too large (ie. the diameter of the axle is too large) to fit in the fork dropouts. Presumably if I try to replace the axle with a smaller diameter then the hardware won’t work. I am a little hesitant to grind down the axle because it is a hollow axle. So what is the proper way to convert these wheels? Thanks.

I have the same wheel and purchased a front wheel kit from excel sports boulder. I think you can order it from hed web site now. Comes with a front spindle and lock nuts and very easy to install. This wheel can also take a single speed converter to use as track/time trial rear wheel.
