When you watch the Tour de France today you may notice a different helmet on the heads of Tony Martin and Levi Leipheimer.

This is the brand new Specialized S-Works McLaren TT helmet

With roughly 350 being made available to the public I wonder what the UCI thinks of that and if it meets their rule for having the equipment that Pro cyclists use be in production for the public. I certainly don't think 350 meets the spirit of that law.

Train to race. Race to win.

I would be surprised to see it sell for under $600.

A visor? Hasn't it been shown those pretty much ruin any aero benefit of the helmet?

Hmmm...sounds like it will only be available in Europe and the UK. Must not be CPSC certified.

Would be interesting to see how the TT02 compares to the TT03 and the McLaren since the TT02 is the only one us mortals can buy.

My testing does not show that a visor ruins any aero benefit of the helmets I've tested for me, in my position.

My suspicion is that there's a reason they aren't showing the TT02 on the same chart (based on my own experience field testing one)...

Good point.

What I am more interested in is why not make as many as the market will be interested in? I guess there is a balance between supply and demand and maximizing profits. But the design time doesn't sound cheap.

The only reason I can think of is that it is slower than some of the non Specialized helmets on the chart. Am I on the right track...?

Not much more detail to add besides there's a reason I'm still running my old LG Rocket w/visor and tail "boxed" in.

I just found I had faster options than the TT02 for me and with my position. YMMV.

lets hope they run it like the venge. They release a pimp mclaren version, and use the same design for a more mainstream one.

"boxed"? Did you cut the tail a bit?
Any photos?

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
Yes, Game Changer
Minor move forward
Won't budge the needle
