Ok, nothing these guys do could remotely be confused with training but there's a group of
guys that are denizens at the local YMCA.
The most they will ever do is walk a mile. If the whirlpool is closed for whatever reason they
won't even do that and off they head straight to IHOP.
So, no whirlpool, no one mile walk.
Find out what it is in life that you don't do well, then don't
do that thing.

Personally I won't run if it's raining to threatening to rain. I'll cut a training run short if it starts to rain and looks like it won't stop

My favorite was just this week ... I'm short course racer but the group I train with occasionally are training for a HIM. This weekend they said they couldn't train on Saturday (Bike) because they had a 10k run on Sunday they wanted to be ready for. My mind went ... KAAABOOOOMMM!

I don't really hear it as much as I see it - at my pool, if it's raining. I'll be the only one swimming.

"It's too dangerous to ride where I live."
What's lame about that is that people would choose to live somewhere that fits that description.

In all fairness, I took it easy last saturday so I would be rested a bit for a short race on sunday.
To make up for it I rode 75 miles on friday instead.

Yeah they didn't race the 10k they "worked on pacing" and it took them 51 minutes. I guess different levels of athleticism and commitment but to me if you're doing a HIM in July you should be working out 6-7 days a week at various intensities at this point. They tend to think 3-4 days a week of any intensity is "training" haha
Again in all fairness they are just in it to complete where as I'm a highly competitive guy. I sometimes question others logic using the wrong lens so to speak.

I know a guy who aborted a training run one time because his GPS watch wouldn't synch with a satellite. True story.

Too funny ... mostly because I almost bailed on swimming today because it's a rainy day. I was hemming and hawing going to the pool only to have the lightening sensor go off but I did go ahead and go anyway. The alarm did sound about 30 minutes in but I did get to swim some.
Once I'm in and it's raining I'm fine but standing on the deck when it's raining feels silly to me.

Ok, I was close to this on many occasions. I finally decided to go ahead without gps or a watch and timed myself by the songs that played on my ipod and then mapmyrun.com to get the distances I ran.
Dave Matthews Band is really easy to run to for tempo, but Foo Fighters is for Fartleks!! In case your gps/watch craps out and you need to run to something.

What are you talking about? This is totally valid. Garmin didn't see it, I didn't do it. Why do you think there are so many bitch threads about Garmin's not uploading data?
