She chicked me riding a tree with training wheels
Quote | Reply
Did a local race this weekend and got passed on the second loop by a pretty fast women. I'm as MOP as they come so getting passed by fast athletes male or female is not a new thing, but I've never been passed before by someone riding a WOODEN bike.

Had to look twice, never seen anything like it. It was a beautiful bike, but I have a hard time believing it could be the fastest and certainly not the lightest... Yet she was ahead of me and riding a half-iron course on basically a tree with training wheels (although it was one fine looking well carved tree)

I was reading some other posts about the high cost of tri bikes and tech as a barrier to growth, but this just goes to show that it's the motor and athletes who train more than I do, have better genetics than I do, etc will be fast no matter what they're riding (though I suspect this wood bike isn't cheap with all the work it must take to build). I'm sure she would've been fast on a hybrid or fat bike.

Posting a pic of the bike because it adds to the post. This looks just like the one. Found it by searching Internet. I'm in no way affiliated with these guys or promoting them, can say it looked awesome and was going pretty fast, but never heard of them before Sunday and I'm happy on my Felt. I Need to keep working on my engine in case I run up against another wooden bike.

Someone rode this at Kona in 2010:

While it's not the fastest bike out there, it's probably only a couple pounds heavier than a carbon rig and certainly more aero than a road frame (the wheels and bars matter more than the frame anyway).

I think we could just stick with

"She gave me the wood"

Sounds like a gender role reversal if you ask me.

Very comfortable bike. Like riding a bark-a-lounger.

Before I clicked on the picture you provided I was picturing actual training wheels... like on my 4 year old's bike. That would have been awesome.

To be a true champion, you don't wait for the wood to come to the beaver...you take the beaver to the wood.

Definitely a stunning, smooth looking bike. I've never seen a wooden tri bike like that or the really beautiful one pictured above from Kona. However, there is a couple in the Tampa Bay area with a fantastic bamboo frame tandem. THAT gets attention wherever it shows up!

That could be the root of your problem; also, don't neglect core work to strengthen your trunk

Well, those wooden bike riders are a splinter faction of the homemade bike branch
