7:25 for a 70.3? He has some work to do. Training since June?

Good luck!

Not my circus, not my monkeys but what the actual hell?

...."I like the idea that I am capable of leading an extraordinary life”.

It says he's done a 7:25 half IM.

seems like he has his act somewhat together. seems like he's doing big workouts, long rides with runs etc.

he's also a celebrity, loaded and has a pretty stress free life compared to the rest of us. i bet if he focuses he can go sub 14. 15 marathons have to count for something.

Gonna be a long, lonely day for him.

I went to watch my gf at Kona in 2013. I was amazed how spread out the race was for folks swimming slower than ~1:15 and biking slower than ~5:30. It gets sparse really fast. And since there aren't loops, people are just by themselves. For the entire day. It honestly looked awful - unlike watching some other races (placid/arizona) which have loops and the median finishing time is 3 hours slower, and there's people spread pretty evenly throughout.

I did Kona in 2011, and you're right, it does get sparse out there, but it was still a great time. The aid stations were fully stocked and not crowded, the porta-potties were clean, and I did not risk getting hit by a lot of other cyclists. Leaving T2 about 4:30p, the first 10 miles were in daylight, the rest in the dark, which meant it cooled down. Also, tons of people who finished hours ahead of me came out to Alii Drive to cheer in the later finishers, as I did. My PR is still at Kona; it's a worthwhile experience no matter your speed, as long as you finish under the deadline.

As long as he doesn't use the ring and mysteriously appear at the finish line ahead of the pro's!

This is going to be a nail biter - 7.5 hour HIM and trying to do Kona under the cutoff will be challenging. I don't care how many marathons he's done what matters is his time. Anyone know which HIM he did?

Such a downer when major news organizations still spell "triathalon" wrong.

He did Vineman this year.

2:11 swim pace, 16 mph bike and 13 min mile pace at Vineman. Has some work to do.

First priority should be losing 40 lbs.

Lets be honest here. The general public is not likely aware of the fact that "Ironman" is a competition at all - most see it as just an event that people do, if they have even heard of it at all.

This is one fat boy that is going to DNF @ Kona.....

i'll be surprised if he DNF's. seeing that he's done a half and was absolutely ROCKED he'll probably (hopefully) focus and put the proper training in.

15 marathons is nothing to scoff at. assuming he's a normal human being he must have put the time and effort into training and i'm assuming understands how much more effort he needs to put in.

i think his splits are:

swim 2:05 (or not make cutoff)
t1: 11 mins
bike: 8:15
t2: 9 mins
run: 5:05

13:46...

awww shit, he's gonna be slower than i thought. haha. lets add 25 mins to the run and another 5 to the swim and the bike.

This just in...celebrities get special treatment in our culture.

Anyway, if we are so happy to watch these guys "pretend" on the big screen that they are somebody else, why do we care if they "pretend" to be triathletes for a day.

I know, I know, there are those with a life goal to race Kona and he's taking that spot. The reality is there are maybe 10 people who toe the line at Kona who are competing to win. The rest of the super studs are simply racing to see who loses by less. That's a fact. Now let's get over ourselves and go out for a bike ride.

Isn't the general rule of thumb to take your HIM time, double it and then add an hour?

I don't see any way he completes in less than 15 hours and I think missing the cut-off / DNF'ing is a real possibility.

I'd be shocked if he breaks 6 hours on the walk.

I don't lead "an extraordianary life".
