Scum of the earth- motorcycle/car kills cyclist

A triathlete, mom and teacher was struck by a motorcyclist who was attempting to pass his girlfriend (in her car) in the 6' wide shoulder. After the cyclist was hit by the motorcyclist, she was then run over by the driver of the car, who then fled the scene. Both were apparently drunk, at 7:45am on a Sunday morning.... Oh, and the motorcyclist just got out of jail for DWI. Throw away the f-ing key.

This is a tragic story that hit close to home for most around here. We drive this road practically every day. My wife wants me to stop riding the roads, and stories like this make you stop and think twice. I need to get a mirror, regardless of The Rules.

Ditto... The road in question has nice wide shoulders and one I've ridden countless times. There really isn't much place to hide against a drunk but at 7:45AM? Absolutely senseless. Hopefully they treat both of the perps equally, and not let the female off easy.

We're doing our best to get some media attention at our weekend benefit ride for our buddy who just lost his leg to a hit and run driver about 45' south of where Heather died. I am currently planning a reroute for our ride that will go to her memorial site, and I'd love to get some politicians there at 1:30pm so that they can tell us what they're going to do to keep this from happening again.

The message needs to be clear - justice for the wounded, the dead, and their families. http://nicetrionline.com/r4r/

I guess you didn't happen to see the screen capture that someone took of her FB page. If you read that, you would clearly understand that none of it was the young woman's fault - or the man's fault for that matter. She made it very clear that the motorcycle (which she so classically referred to as a "bike") hit the cyclist, then the car ran her over. So, neither of the drivers were at fault. Their vehicles, on the other hand ....

I'd love to see both of them get charged and sentenced to the fullest extent of the law, but we all know that will never happen as they're simply young and foolish. They both have histories of substance abuse, so their defense will be that society and the system failed them. Another completely senseless death, and another pair of degenerates that will be walking (and driving) the streets within a matter of years, if not months.

When I wife said she wanted me to stop riding the roads after many close calls, and said I could buy a Velotron, well, I had to make the wife happy. Best thing she has ever made me do. I am having the best bike times
of my racing so far this year with 99% of my riding on my trainer.

Not trying to be an ass, but how would you propose they do this?

Did you read the FB comments on that story? Seems the guy has a long criminal history with several prior DWI's - and he's only 22. Someone else took a screenshot of the girl's FB page with her disgusting comments after the crash. I hope they crucify those two.

Being local, I have the unfortunate of listening to the morning radio people talk about this situation. I'm thoroughly disgusted that the DJs were saying things like, "Who rides at 7:45 am on a Sunday morning?" and "It wouldn't matter if they were DUI, this would probably have happened anyway."

That's absolutely disgusting. Which stations/DJs? There's been success in the past with publicly shaming DJ's by contacting their stations and/or advertisers, and who knows, maybe it would help the general message of 'share the road' if idiots like radio DJs demonstrated respect.

I know, that's main reason I posted here- they are such disgusting individuals, and I'm terrified at the thought that they could get away with killing someone. And I'm upset that instead of those two just crashing into a tree or something, they took out someone who seemed truly wonderful.

I heard it on 96.5, morning show called "The Breakroom" at roughly 6:00-6:10 this morning. http://www.wcmf.com/pages/4811052.php

There's actually a good chance they get what's coming to them! I have a few friends that are defense lawyers for things like this and District Attorneys and judges are cracking down hard on 2nd time DUI offenders! The girl may get off easy, but the guy is going down!

I live in the Philadelphia area and I also find riding on the congested public roads to be a bit scary. I do my training on a Compu Trainer in Philly and I drive the bike to "safe" areas in Delaware and Lehigh Valley for actual road training. Tim

Her Facebook rant got 17 thumbs-up's (I guess that's "like's"? I'm not on FB, so no clue), as of the time of the screen shot???

Unbelieveable. Well, actually not.
I'm sure her "friends" all think she's a wonderful person, who is faultless in this whole thing.
(conveniently ignoring of course the whole DWI/reckless driving/manslaughter parts of it)

Absolutely tragic. Cervelorider, i live in delco. Where do you ride? I moved here from rural Washington/Idaho and the roads here freak me out. I've had more close calls in the couple months I've lived here than a lifetime out west.

I think it might actually play well with her new acquaintances. In prison. Dirtbag.

Check out Google Maps street view for this area: 1249 New York 250, New York, United States. This is the road she was riding on; plenty of space, quiet suburban with some open fields. Another 20 minutes east, and you're in wide open farm territory. This is a safe road for any cyclist, runner, walker, skater, stroller-pusher. Anyone can and should feel comfortable riding here.

This is a 20 minute drive from where I live, and as a guy who is relatively comfortable on the roads around here, its hard to register something like this happening. There aren't a ton of aggressive drivers, we don't see a lot of poorly maintained roads. Outside the city limits (and even some places inside) this is a relatively bike friendly community.

As for the local DJs who were being suck dicks about the whole situation, they DJ for the lowest-common-denominator lame 70s/80s rock station. The same station that every pickup driving, dirty jeans wearing, tobacco chewing high blood pressure, single digit IQ hayseed douchefuck listens to in every town in America. You know, the ones that post videos like this.

All of the other coverage I have seen and heard has been pretty spot on.
