I usually go to town on my fav deep dish pizza, donuts, and ice cream. Then I feel disgusting for a day or two and dont want it again until after the next race.

it is weird that i never really have much of an appetite after, including the day after, my IMs. I think the halves too. don't take in much nutrition on course either. maybe it is an "old" thing.

Me too! Food is normally the last thing I want after a hard race.

I drank a can of Mountain Dew right after a race thinking the sugar would help me out...I can say that it tasted almost the same coming back up.

Watermelon and German beer because that's what's usually available at the finish at local German races.

I used to be a vegetarian. I noticed that I'd CRAVE a burger pattie like nothing else after any really long run in hot weather. That burger pattie would be the only thing I could think of in the last stretch of the run. So I promised myself that after a marathon or whatever A race it was I was training for, I'd go to McDonalds afterwards and indulge. I've stuck with that tradition for 15 years now: McDonalds after every big race. I've had McDonalds in Cape Town, South Africa; Alexandria, Egypt; Yeovil and Buntingford, UK; France (Medoc? - can't remember); Copenhagen, Denmark; Vancouver, Canada, and every time I've gone to races in the US. My husband and I have this deal where the person who did the race gets to talk about the race ad nauseaum. It's been fun to experience different McDonalds in different countries - mindboggling how uniform they are and how little a common language matters when you're ordering! - and to have something we consider our own little tradition.
Anyway, I usually skip the post-race food right after I finish and wait until we get to a McDonalds. Then it's a Quarter-Pounder meal.

I am with ya Kathy. I always want to be hungry after a race and make big plans for this beer and that food but never feel hungry after.

At the finish line of any race, if available, watermelon. I don't ever really feel like eating much after a race of any distance, assuming I am racing it and not just participating.
A few hours afterwards? Whatever I might normally eat.

I miss this. When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, and raced O'side every year, we always stopped at the In-N-Out on hiway 76 on the way home.

Not sure why you directed this at me...especially since I didn't say anything about McDonalds (haven't been to one in years).
You must be out there a really long time if brunch places are already open when you finish an Ironman.
I've found that my choices are a bit limited after an Ironman. Once I finish, grab a bit of the post-race food, get a massage, collect my bike, transition bags, get back to the hotel and grab a quick shower, the options are somewhat limited...especially on Sunday.
For instance, in Cairns the race started at 7:45 AM, I finished just before 8:45 PM, I was ready for dinner about 10-ish. The Brazilian Steakhouse was closed and the closest open restaurant was in the casino...where I had a steak. I had a great breakfast & dinner the next day.
