Sanders at Boston

I didnt see much Boston discussion. Looks like Lionel ran Boston. Tempo run for the first half then waited for his mom maybe to run it in. Would Kona have been his qualifying run?

Not to shabby for Momma Sanders. Ran a 3:35 in F 50-54 age group

His 2:54 at Kona 2015 was likely his qualifier.

Pretty sure he was asking how Lionel qualified for the race that you're supposed to qualify for.

Kona is a BQ race. So his Kona time from 2015 gets him a BQ. Congrats to Beckie Sanders!!!

Well we know where Lionel got at least some of those excellent endurance genetics from:)

Genetics load the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger.

Very cool!! I would like to see some video of him running 8 minute miles. I was a little surprised to hear him say he was going to get a beer, given his past.

You obviously don't know what an addict is. And have no experience in it.

This is not a new thing for him. Over a year ago, he addressed this on a TRS podcast and stated he occasionally has a beer. Seems he can cope with that without a slippery slope.

Personally, I think we should not judge him by assumptions of his actions. Rather, I think we should acknowledge the much more powerful statement to his character. For instance, he participated in the Boston Marathon, but instead of pursing an ego-fueled race he took the time to enjoy the moment with his mom.

So he paced his mom for the 2'nd 1/2? That's a DQ isn't it?

Why would that be a DQ?

I thought using a pacer was not allowed

I dont think anyone within the race is considered a pacer. Boston doesn't allow "pacers" but this wouldnt be considered pacing in the eyes of BAA.

Imagine its more of 'outside' assistance/pacing. I (and I imagine a huge block of runners) find others running around the same pace once you're a couple miles in and feed off of that, no problem there.

I imagine it is more that he "ran with" as opposed to "paced" Which happens all the time in every marathon.

Perhaps it's a different side of the same coin, but what is specifically banned from Boston are rabbits ... those who are paid to run a fast pace and drop out at mile 16-20. Running with your son for the final 10k of a marathon seems to fall well within the rules of the race.
