CRAP! I did cockpit swaps with the same methodology on my Tachyon back when they made them with slacker geo. I put electrical tape on the ends which worked about 5% of the time and I almost always had to re-cable. What makes it even more maddening is that Super Glue is part of my Man Card Go Kit along with duct tape and zip ties....it was right in front of me! Giving myself 7 demerits for not knowing this trick. OH well it's only 20 years late;)

Hope the sniffles are just the sniffles, rip hard today.

Love these dual-purpose builds.
Thanks for posting, Tom. Best of luck in your TT.

I figured out what was fugly about the bike---the Adamo---it just isn't "elegant" & magnifies the "blockiness" of the bike. Then again I ride a SMP which is pretty high in the weird category.

Attractive road setup. How do you like those brakes (performance wise, not just their aeroness)?

Good luck today.

Well, the superglue trick isn't 100% either (but better than 5%!)...sometimes the difficulty with re-using the cables is from where the clamp points deform it anyway. I just make sure I have some spare fresh cables handy if I'm going to do the swap so if one starts giving me fits, I just throw in a new inner.

Unfortunately, the head cold did get worse overnight...so I pulled the plug at about 5am this morning. It wasn't surprising since my entire family seems to have the exact same thing all at once. I'm sitting here now with a nice steaming mug of coffee "soothing" the back of my throat, so no hard ripping is on the agenda today :-(

Well, as I commented once to someone else about the "looks" of the Adamo, "My nether regions don't care one bit about your aesthetic sensibilities" ;-)

The brakes work great. My only complaints about them are that if you use wheels of varying widths, they aren't the easiest to center and adjust spacing...and it can sometimes be difficult to thread the end of a cable through the clamp hole, especially if it's been cut previously. Other than that, they are good performers.

Can't see much of the saddle while the bike is being ridden either; though I guess more of the Adamo is visible than most saddles.

To me it's not the saddle. It's how the seat tube is so much bigger than the seat post. I think if the post were wider, to match the seat tube, it wouldn't look so "blocky". But I'm guessing they can't do that and be within the UCI 3:1 aspect ratio.

I'm sure what you suggest could be done, but a smaller airfoil of the same shape has less wind resistance than a bigger one. Same with the newest cannondale. The seat post looks bad but a small post is all that is needed structurally so adding material for looks is bad. Especially with a seat post at some point it stops cutting through the air and starts pushing the air out to your thighs.

It looks like the road version has SRAM and the TT has Shimano rear mech and shifters. Was this conversion more than just bars and cables?

Also tell more more about that new Quarq crankset.

Good eye. I had sold my SRAM TT shifters with my Transition and the 100K bars still had the Shimano bar ends installed from the last time I had used them. I figured for this trial run I could just use the Shimano shifters in friction mode with the SRAM rear derailleur...which is all well and good except for the fact that the Shimano bar end doesn't have enough total travel to be able to shift up the entire cassette with the SRAM derailleur. Doh! Luckily, I had a spare Shimano derailleur I could throw on there and I'm using a chain with an easily unlatched master link ;-)

I plan to acquire some more SRAM TT shifters soon.

It's a prototype version of the "Red" CinQo.

They are not banned until Jan 2013. They must be no more than 10cm in diameter and hold between 400ml and 800ml, they also must be located in the main triangle of the bike with a gap between bottle and frame. Very ridiculous!!!

Haha. Well, I want to get the fastest overall time now. Time to start speed training...

Oh, and you'd be proud of me. Lowest CdA I've ever recorded. That's sort of like a PR in itself!

Tom
I was hoping to get your opinion based on your experiences with the S5 set up as TT bike.
My bike was recently totaled by a car (with me unfortunately on it). I have healed but I am without TT bike at moment
I have buddy who will lend me a P3 (previously on P4) and I have a S5 on order.
Was wondering based on your recent experiences do you think the S5 set up as TT bike would be faster than the P3?
I can get to the same position with an adjustable stem on S5 so all else should be relatively equal between the two.
thanks
rob

Ewwww...no. I prefer power meters that don't have offset values that drift "willy-nilly" ;-)

With equivalent positions and equipment, yes, I've been told it should be faster than a P3...I haven't confirmed that (yet) though ;-)
