Earlier many of the competition were uploaded to Youtube, hopefully this year also.
Today it is biathlon also.

One of my friends sent my photos from this race via facebook. The venue looks beyond awesome. What are the stats for the entire climb in terms of average percent and gradient and records for running and biking. I heard the entire climb is ~1000m? Really cool seeing these guys and girls one skating up this

For the rollerskiing race they do not race the whole road. But it is hard
Mass start The Lysebotn Up-hill race Thursday:
- Women and men 7,5 km
- 640 meter climb from the start to finish. The start is on sea level

So the average once they hit the climb is probably above 10% closer to 11? Assume 6K climb 640m?

I found this on Strava https://www.strava.com/segments/10748790
Re: Rollerskiing from Norway now. Amazing climb up Lysebotn [Halvard]

Based on that segment the climb starts 1K in, so actual climb is 640m in 6.4K so 10% average but looking at the profile it looks more like a series of 12-15% climbs with 5-8% on the hairpins. Also 2-3K is dead flat, so more like 640m over 5.4K during the climbing parts.

OK, you can see the elevation gain in the tunnel which is a blip that re starts when the athlete exits. The slope of the tunnel is not flat but far less steep than the rest. So maybe 600m of 5.4K is the real "meat" of the climb where it really alternates between super steep between switchback and less steep on the turns.
Fabulous spot. Do they have an uphill tri here, or is the water too cold (stupid question, nothing is too cold for these Vikings).

I missed this thread! I was hoping there might be an olympic or sprint tri that includes that course. An IM on there does not sound that fun. Sure it would be epic to have this killer climb in a tri, but as part of an IM not as much fun!!!! Would like to hammer it at 100% FTP

I see there are direct flights from Amsterdam to Stavanger. From Stavanger, how do you get to this spot. Is it worth taking a cycling holiday in the area? Are you allowed to bike on this climb on a normal day (this is a dumb north american question, I assume the answer is yes, you can ride it all the time), but it would suck to go all the way and not be allowed to ride through the tunnel for example.

Lysefjorden is a popular area. You have Prekestolen and other great places to hike to.
You can do Rockman swimrun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ur40Nih4fQ
Or you can just bike or hike the area.
You can take a ferry to Lysebotn and bike up.

Do they all use the same rollerskis (or at least a standard wheel speed)?
Also, note Petter Eliasson's steady state double poling technique compared to Northug. Eliasson has a little hop to each stroke - his heel lifts off the binding. Northug on the other hand stays flat footed throughout (with exception to this sprinting technique). If one technique better?

In rollerski competitions all the athletes are using the same skis. At Blink it was IDT Sport rollerskis. I got myself two pair of IDT when I was in Norway this summer, great skis.
Eliassen is a pure long distance doublepoler, while Northug is a world cup skier. They may have some small differences in technique based on the distance they are training for, but they are doing the basics the same.

If you wonder, Norwegians are xc-skiing and endurance sports crazy.
On Friday 53% of everybody watching TV in Norway, watched the rollerskiing events.

The passion for endurance is awesome there plus it does not get as hot as Hades there. It is again so hot and muggy here in the Southeast of the USA that I just want to sit in an ice bath sipping cold chocolate milk

I would have loved to watch that live ... the men's and women's technique is so good and they are so incredibly strong. There is a 2K route nearby at 10% grade ... I struggle to keep good form even using V1 and the men are going up this hill climb V2 the whole way, like it is flat!
