I prefer to be able to get tires on a rim with my hands or with a single lever. I also like to stop when I brake.

Can you elaborate on this a little? There should be no issues putting tires on a FLO DISC wheel.. Do you have experience with our DISC wheels? If so, what tire were you using?

Can I ask I why you couldn't stop on our A+C DISC, or even our Carbon DISC?

I don't think you want this guy as a customer. Remember this thread?

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...nchers!_P5875463-17/

See his post about 2/3 down the page and subsequent responses.

After he sustained "damage" after a 5 hour ride in the rain in the mountains (seriously... I don't see the damage in those photos) you guys gave him a full refund even though there was nothing wrong with the wheel. He should be super happy, right?

Then he goes on ST and posts a tirade comparing you to cheap open mold Chinese wheels. This guy obviously has a personal bent. Let another wheel company deal with him.

I am considering going full dentist and buying a disc wheel at retail price from either Dash or Alto, but I have not seen any reviews by real people. Anyone have experience with these products? Are there any other tubeless ready, wide clincher discs on the market that make sense for less than $2,000? Obviously this is very expensive to use half a dozen times per year, so I'm nervous

I have the Dash Gretchen Clincher (original not the V2) mounted to a Corsa Speed. I'm running this tubeless. No issues to mount, no issues braking and basically no issues after 4 races. Tire mounted to a 2013 Cervelo P3. I wanted something tubeless, light and thin to fit my bike.

I don't think Chris needs your help here, Flo Fanboy. The post you referenced was factual and Chris allayed my concerns amicably. I have nothing against Flo as a company, in fact I'm still a proponent of their A+C wheels, I just choose not to ride their CCs based on my past experience.

this "full dentist" bought a zipp disk used for 1200$ 3 yrs ago.

I went "IT Worker With Kids" and also bought a used super9 and 808 clinchers for about 1600 total.
The Super 9 has held up great, easy to get tires on. Been using it with latex tubes and Conti GP4000sII, no flats, rolls nice.

I know there is a lot of love for 7.8's, but why would you consider them an 'upgrade' from a super9/808 combo??

Think there is argument to be made that it will handle better in the wind, not that I have major issues with the 808, but if it takes less effort to handle it in cross winds maybe that translates into A. a better bike split or B. not being as worn out when done with bike due to less fatigue overall. C. Enve 7.8 has a better hub then my FC808 which is now 3-4 yrs old.

So overall I do think the 7.8 is a upgraded wheel to a FC808.

Lastly Enve has great showing/support at Kona which I really like supporting companies that come out and support great races like that.

Well now we could get into the "when are disk brakes taking over" debate!

Don't support a company whose marketing director claims disc wheels are not for triathlon.

But you can argue they don't make fast wheels! And one day a disk will be coming! It will be best disk ever with a disc break of course to.

that's about what I have into my 808/Super9 combo..

1050 BIN ebay for the super9 CC
565 ebay win for the 808 CC ... so $1615 for the combo (I'm happy since both are prestine)

1) i don't think the 7.8 would handle better in the wind. if you really are concerned with that, get the forthcoming 858 or whatever it's going to be called

2) better hubs don't really do anything, unless they break. zipp hubs aren't really known for being amazing, but i can virtually guarantee they are no slower or faster than a dt240 or that new enve hub.

3) in conclusion, going to a 7.8 set from an 808/super9 is never something i would do. YMMV.

I have both, and honestly I prefer the Enve's because they are tubeless compatible and because they are wider, so they are more practical (or desirable, at least to me) and more comfortable. I am running a 26mm S-Works Turbo on my rear 7.8 with a 24mm up front, set up tubeless, and I'm running them at 80/85 PSI, respectively. The ride quality is outstanding, and I don't have to worry about pinch flats. Soon we will have more tubeless tire options methinks. There is a downside to all this, which is that the tires aren't quite as easy to get on the Enve rim as on Zipp 808s -- and half the time, you need to use a tire lever. This is the struggle of our time.

The "handling" thing is nonsense, of course. The braking quality of the Enve's is to me indistinguishable from Zipp Firecrests, even in rain.

I really don't like Enve as a company, but the products they make are great products.

I'd probably call the fronts a wash.. 808 vs 7 but the rear being a disc, i'll give the edge to Zipp ofcourse. I do agree the enve's will probably be more comfy. I use the 4.5 as training wheels and they are very comfy compared to my race only 808/S9 combo. I've ridden the 7.8s on a different bike and had the same wonderful comfy feelings. I'd get the 7.8s in a heartbeat, but they are too wide for my road bike..so I can't pull double duty.

X2

But i didnt use rim tape. Why? There are no spoke holes to seal. I have tire and valve and sealant. Raced it 300mi this year. No issues.

Tho to the OP - Alto's disc is also very impressive. It wasnt out when I got the Dash so I didnt have a choice - which Im glad. I would have struggled. I have Altos for all my other wheels on my bikes.

Tested Super 9 w Force tire and the Dash w Corsa earlier this year at A2. I cant remember which one won or if they were tied but it was essentially no difference. I should go back and double check. Pedals off, no rider. It was a good bit lighter and tubeless as well so easy choice at that point for me which one I was keeping.

Looks like few interesting discs in development. Given their wind tunnel knowledge the Specialized one looks intetesting. Then here in the UK we have the TT'ers favourite Aerocoach and their new proto type which I expect has probably been around the Newport Velodrome more times than Geraint Thomas.

Swiss side have been working on one for a while as well.

The revolver Asym is interesting too.

Otherwise I would say the Hed discs are probably the most popular here with lots going to the Corsa Speed tubeless setup.

What brand of latex tubes do you put in? My usual Vittoria have too long a stem.

Verdestein (sp?). They were recommended a while ago by rappstar for their shorter stem.

Vredestein: http://www.ebay.com/...sh=item3f80f399c9:g:~WAAAOSwXXxZWhin

They list as having a 50mm valve stem, which doesn't *seem* like it's that much shorter than the Vittoria, but it is. Vredestein measures including the valve core while Vittoria does not. But neither measures in any truly logical way that I can decipher. But there is quite a bit of difference between them.

Actual measured stems of each:
- Vittoria 42mm (excluding valve core)
- Vredestein 25mm (excluding valve core)
