yesterday during the race I spoke with a VIP from the woodlands town board who heads up the event and asked him about next year. He of course didn't give a straight answer cause he didn't know yet. I asked if it would be a date change or venue change. He said that the date will not change and there will be an Ironman Texas next year but where? He sighted retailers complaining about poor sales on market street, so maybe this year with the finish line move everyone will be happy. He also talked about last minute changes with the swim portion that race officials were not happy with. It is only the 2nd year so the kinks need to be worked out. Also we have residents who complain about traffic this one day of the year. I've read comments by them to move the event to a less populous area...ha. Maybe the NYC marathons should move too?

What last minute changes to the swim? Seemed the same to me as last year.

There were some last minute changes to the bike to account for the polling location at the library next to transition. Quite frankly I blame WTC and more specifically the race director for that screwup. He lives here in The Woodlands and should have taken this into account a long time ago.

logella, talked to lead Township official and the sponsor yesterday morning at the swim start. Both were frustrated. The former implied politics and some internal Township workings.

One of the two new Township directors, Gordy Bunch, was a finisher at IMTX last year. Robb, who stayed on, was a friend of the triathlete who passed during CB&I and questioned Meckfessel at the original press conference two years ago, but not as strenuously as I would have thought.

I've always thought Mathews, who chose not to run, was favorable to sporting events. Interesting to see how it will all play out.

The swim was the same. It was just behind the scenes logistics of boats, boat docks etc.

Hope it comes back after they get everything worked out. Nice to have a race this close to home for me.

This is really disappointing. I was looking forward to signing up yesterday and couldn't find it. Guess this is why. Is there any thought on a time frame when this will be resolved?

The email that I received from Ironman said it could take a couple months before the permits are finalized.

this was the official response on the IM Texas Facebook page today-

"We have not assigned a date for the 2013 registration yet because we are waiting on finalized course permits. Please check out ironmantexas.com in the upcoming weeks for any announcements."

Hopefully it's closer to a couple of weeks than a couple of months

I thought I'd bring this back to the top page. There is a meeting tomorrow night of The Woodlands Township Board of Directors. There are a couple of items on the agenda that relate to IMTX. Check out item 13 (modification to WTC contract) and item 17 (update regarding management of major events). I'm going to try to attend the meeting but have to work around some kid things tomorrow first.

Thanks for the update and it would be great to hear what is discussed regarding IMTX. Also, I wonder what "exhibit C" is

Giddy up, there's no reason to look behind you, you're not heading that way.

What's the buzz on why resgistration won't open Sunday?

At the race I heard it was because of bike course changes.

Ed Chance the current county commish of Montgomery county is not running for reelection. It is up to him to issue the permits for all the road closures, deputies, ems, etc. there has been some grumblings by residents here about traffic (even though the bike course was changed this year to accommodate). WTC is waiting for the election to finish to see who will be the new commish. There is a few people on the township board who were fans but apparently aren't anymore. Late May is a very busy time in the woodlands. Proms, concerts, graduations , little league playoffs (some will scoff at this but we have the second largest little league org in country and baseball is a big deal here. Very big)....also we host the CB&I sprint triathlon 2 weeks before Ironman and it closes the same intersections and causes the same headaches. Over a 1000 people race this race and I think the residents here just get pissed that almost 2 weeks in a row it's hard to get around. There is plenty of warning and signs but it still is a big deal. I raced both and will continue to. I think CB&I needs to move to march or fall to ease pain. If they don't work it out I've heard Galveston is chomping at the bit to grab it and go full ironman. To everyone saying Galveston registration is delayed and that it may be to change date. 70.3's generally don't open registration immediately and lonestar didn't last year so this is normal.

The obvious question is: are they waiting until the election to make a decision on IMTX schedule/entry? The election isn't until 11/6.
Maybe more will unfold after the meeting tonight.
Thanks.

They are waiting till the primary is over. This being a very very conservative area I think they will talk to the winner of the primary and see what they think and then Ed chance will approve. Who knows this is just my thoughts. The biggest road issue though is 105 up north. That is a major thorough fare and they have an issue.

Exhibit C covers the host sponsorship fees, broadcast, and donations.

Exhibit A clearly spells out the dates of the events. I was hoping for a date change as well, but maybe the meeting will cover that and just are not referencing the contract.

In looking at the termination clause, it appears to be for cause only. Perhaps some of the lawyers out there have a different read.

Thus, the meeting tonight will probably just cover the feedback, logistics, and the TV obligations.

Word I got is that it stays in the Woodlands for next year and registration should open around June 30th. That's 2nd hand info so take it for what it's worth.

Unfortunately not. Got hung up at work and by the time I could leave it was close to 8pm and I figured I'd missed it.

The rumor I heard is that The Woodlands is out and Sugerland (sp?) has made a big pitch to host starting next year. Any validity to this?
