Race Suits

I will be needing to purchase some new race suits for this year and was wanting to find some info what brands you guys feel are better for one reason or another. I race everything from sprints to 70.3's and will be doing my first ironman this year. I've previously worn 2XU and Kiwami. I can't say anything bad about either one, but I also can't say that I'm 100% sold on either one. I ususally wear one piece, but am leaning towards 2 piece as I see some benefits of the 2 piece for longer distances. Thanks for the opinions.

I switched to De Soto last year after years of using Orca and Sugoi. The longest I've done in the De Soto is a 1/2 but it would be my choice for a full as well. The pad, the fabric and the leg grippers on the forza suit are the best I have ever worn. I have always been a one piece guy myself but the advantage of a 2 peice is you can make quicker pit stops if you need to. Do a search and you will find a bunch of raves about De Soto, great stuff!

x 2 for Desoto. I have used their shorts for years but have a new love with their Low Cut models both the Forza and Rivera (great for IMs!)

I have tried Sugoi and a few others and none are as trustworthy!

Stick with a Brioni, but not too Zoot Suit Riot. Subtle stripes.

I have used 2xu in both 1pc & 2pc.
I'm not in love with the fabric.

Kiwami looks nice, but nowhere in my area to try on.

DeSoto consistently gets rave reviews here. I just got a pair of their tri shorts, if I like those I might spring for a race kit.

With regards to 1pc vs 2pc, I don't see the bathroom issue really being that big.
I would prefer to not feel constricted across the midsection with a one piece, but the ride-up of the 2pc always drives me nuts!
I think you have to be a real beanpole for the 2pc to stay in place. I don't really have any fluff to speak of in the midsection, but with wide hips I guess, I ended up feeling like I was wearing a sports bra & got so sick of pulling it down during the run.

Another big De Soto fan here. De Soto's Forza Riviera Tri Shorts are the most comfortable tri short I have ever used. Match it up with a Forza Tri Jersey and you have one comfortable kit. I recently purchased a Forza 78-Degree Swim Top and I can't wait to try it out.

Desoto !!!!!!!! I have raced all distances in their one piece. It's the BEST.
When I first started I bought a desoto one piece. After my first race I threw all my wet stuff in a bag . A few days later I washed it all together and probably in hot water. " I was young" . It got some black fade on some of the white. I Called DeSoto and talked to The man himself. He said " no problem I'm sending you a new one" I turned that offer down I only wanted to know if there was anything I could use to remove the spot. . BUT I will always wear DeSoto what a nice experience!!!!!

I've always heard good things about Desoto but have never tried any out. Anybody know who the best online dealer is for their stuff, or do you order directly from Desoto?

really like the 2010 2xu eliete tri suit, definite upgrade from the 2009 model, breathable and non constricting-also it is great in the water. If you want you can un zip the rear and pull the whole top down to your waist if it is really hot outside and you feel constricted.

I really like my kiwami that I got last year. I believe my coach actually races in Kiwami. You guys are definitely on my list for new gear, I was just seeking out some different opinions. I forget the name, but I love the looks of the new black and white tri suit. Most importantly, it matches my bike :)

another vote for 2xu.

after trying zoot (decent), desoto (cannot understand why as many people like these as so, love their bike shorts, could not stand the tri ones), pearl, LG, came back to 2xu and have not looked back. Also really like speedo, would love to give kiwami a shot this year.

I think you are talking about our all new Konami. We designed it especially for hot weather races: all white with some "cold black" tinted panels...at the strategic places. Feel free to contact us if you need any info.

I am also looking for a race suit for this year. Will use for the first time at Florida 70.3.

I have narrowed my choices to:
DeSoto Forza Tri Suit
2XU Elite (although that Project X looks interesting)
Kiwami Konami or Kaiman X Club

Favorite Gear: Dimond | Cadex | Desoto Sport | Hoka One One

Ill give a thumbs up to both Kiwami and Desoto - never used either, but you cant go past these two companies when they are willing to write on a forum in support of their products.

Both suits are our Long Distance suits.

Their difference lies in the fabrics. We have designed the all new Konami with hot weather races in mind. Thus, the use of a very light and protective white fabric. To go around the issue with transparency, we used "cold black" panels for those sensitive areas. This tint is derived from the auto industry and is working magics: the black panels reflect at least as much heat as the white fabric.

So basically, it really depends upon your racing program and also how much heat-sensitive you are.

Otherwise, both suits have all the attribute of a good LD trisuit: comfy chamois, several pockets, fast drying material, reflective dots...and good looks :)

Hope this helps,

Andre, what are the main differences between the Konami and Kaiman X Club?

As Andre said, the difference is the fabric, but that does make a big difference

Konami - more snug fitting, but also more "contoured" in my opinion. I *LOVE* the Amphibian fabric (what this suit and the Amphibian are made from). It really fits like a second skin. Lycra now - to me - feels like I'm wearing *something.* But with this fabric, it contours to your body. You move and the fabric moves, as opposed to you move within the suit. To me, this is the new standard for a long course suit and likely will be what I will race in once I get my special version with the back zipper (*I HATE FRONT ZIPS, but I'm weird...). :)

Kaiman - great suit. Very traditional. A bit more of a "relaxed" fit, though still snug. It just tends to fit a bit looser as lycra seems to "bag" a bit more (in general) when it's wet (ALL lycra). I think this is what most people expect from a trisuit. First rate cut, comfy, pockets, etc.

Pad is the same on both suits. The Konami definitely fits tighter - both at first and even when wet. So that is a factor. If you tend to feel claustrophobic in things, then the Kaiman may be a better suit for you. But me, I'd absolutely get the Konami.

Is the pad a fleece one or like the Tri Air pad from LG?

Why isn't there an equivelant to the Konami in a 2 piece version?

Not fleece, and I've never used the LG suit, so I can't compare. It's the standard Kiwami pad. It's a relatively high-density (but quick drying pad) with an ultra-suede-esque cover which is very nice.

The Amphibian material does not lend itself to two-piece construction very well, which is why there is no two piece version.
