RPM2 - Power Meter Shoe Insole Inserts. Thoughts?
Just wanted to get the Power Meter Guru's thoughts on these insoles. They look interesting and might be a great way to have power on every bike that I ride and also a good tool for running as well. For the triathlon version at $650, it seems like good deal.

Phenomenal deal if they work well, which of course raises the question...

Interesting concept...Reminds me of the Dr. Schoells machines you see at some stores, which measure pressure points and offer recommendations based off the results. My question, besides its accuracy, is how durable would this be? For a tri version, would you have tot transfer the insoles over to your running shoes, or just bite the bullet and have another pair?

I am thinking more for training than racing. For racing just use them on your bike. I want more information however.

I'm thinking the difficult thing will be detecting pedal angle vs crank arm...

Sure...it also appears they don't recommend that you run them every day and only use them for testing. That gives me pause.

Is there no activity left which is free from this pointless proliferation of gadgets?

Cycling, by definition, is a technologically based sport.

You might want to consider taking up walking...barefoot ;-)

Considering you can't carry a phone it would make them pretty useless for racing (triathlon).

First, this system has existed for a long time though it wasn't necessarily available commercially. I have a few sets in my office that were made by Zephyr. They can run in streaming mode or in an independent storage node so you can upload and analyze the data later.

Usefulness as a powermeter is heavily dependent on the algorithm and that's part of the reason why metrigear's pedals (now Garmin Vector)were delayed by several years.

Resurrecting this thread. Anyone had any experience with these? Given they've been out for a while and I've heard nothing about them, does that mean they're not particularly useful?

With the Training Bible Podcast recent focus on these and Vance making the podcast rounds, thought I'd bump again. They seem much closer to ready for prime time.

Personally I wouldn't get them just for the running, but if they worked for the bike I'd certainly play with the running aspect. The efficiency thing makes sense to me.
