RICE, state of the art and guidelines

Thought I'd share this since not two days go by without someone recommending RICE (and especially Ice) to deal with injuries and recovery.
Previously I shared a study that showed the lack of benefits of cryotherapy.

Why Ice Delays Recovery

When I wrote my best-selling Sportsmedicine Book in 1978, I coined the term RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for the treatment of athletic injuries (Little Brown and Co., page 94). Ice has been a standard treatment for injuries and sore muscles because it helps to relieve pain caused by injured tissue. Coaches have used my "RICE" guideline for decades, but now it appears that both Ice and complete Rest may delay healing, instead of helping.

Going through my old books 6 months ago and I threw that book out. There was alot of good advice in that book though.

I read down to his recommendations... pretty much how I use my Game Ready now.. 15 on 15 off and repeat max another time... The Normatec gets more use. The GameReady also does compression with ICE..

I've heard that we should instead use "POLICE" , but maybe the ice is not such a good idea. It then becomes POLCE. Protection, optimal loading, compression, elevation.
